Mountain Top Weather and CLimate

Recommended Posts

It has been a while since I have been to the forum!  I hope everyone has been doing well.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, I updated my charts for climate statistics on various US mountains.  I was able to add a lot more new data I was able to dig up over the years (but am still trying to dig up more).  Unfortunately the site I put the data on has more ads than it used to, but the data is there and hopefully interesting.

It's isn't that big of a page, but as far as I know this is the only place where the climate data for all these mountain summits is gathered in one place.

If I missed any mountain summits where weather and climate data is available, please let me know.

Thanks!

For some reason, the record lows at Denali Pass are quite a bit "warmer" than the ones at the weather station at 19,000 feet as well (which recorded temperatures in the -70s on multiple occasions.

I actually went on an expedition up Denali this may, carrying a portable thermometer up, at the Plateau below the summit ridge we set up a temporary camp following our late evening summit, at 19500' we recorded a temperature of -43 degrees overnight (+/- a few degrees, probably not a 100% accurate thermometer) which is the same as the record low may temperature observed at Denali Pass. Although we were in a cold spell, it was nothing historic by any means and this also occurred in late may. This probably confirms that Denali Pass has some warm bias for the low temps, I would assume that -43 is certainly not the record low in may for the summit of Denali, I find it likely that -50 has happened many times in the last century.

Photo from the camp, taken at 4:46 am at the peak of the cold.
