"Feels Like" temperature equivalents

Recommended Posts

Not a big weather person here, but had a couple of courses in college and have a layman's interest.
I have noted over time that feels like temperature equivalents seem to miss the mark in my estimation. Humidity, or dew point, doesn't seem to get nearly the consideration it deserves, in my humble opinion, in how comfortable or uncomfortable a temperature feels. Having moved from the humid Midwest to the dry Southwest, this seems particularly true to me. For example, today it is already over 100, yet is very comfortable in the shade. One needs only to make sure they stay hydrated. The "feel" scales might give two to six degrees difference for the low humidity, but I would give the difference in comfort overall to be closer to ten if not 15 degrees.
For example, if it were 65% humidity at 85 degrees back in the Midwest, I would greatly prefer 102 at 9% here. I don't want to stand in the direct sun, mind you, but otherwise, I would be miserable back home and things at a much higher temperature here would be comfortable.
Am I alone in this? The basic thing I am saying is that the "feel" scales seem many degrees off from what I sense when I enter dry and wet heat.
Thought maybe someone might know of a good document or video on the scales and if there are other ways of relating temperature feeling.
