August 2024 Observations and Discussion

Recommended Posts

I'm back in the Valley of the Sun....our week long road trip was action packed, quite fun, but a little draining on the body having to sleep one night here, one night there...but it's all worth it bc my fam got to see a lot of nice places in the Southwest U.S.   Now it's time to re-charge the batteries and get down to work.

I'm a little jelly of you guys in the Midwest who are enjoying a much needed break from the hot/humid weather.  Man, it's about as good as it can get!  Gorgeous weather for the Air & Water Show this weekend...I'd be right there on the beach for this event.

Any sun this morning should fade as the cold front approaches this PM. Rain should start by late afternoon toward early evening. Heaviest rain overnight with up to a couple inches possible in spots. The impacts of TS Debby will keep us wet for much of the rest of the work week.
Chester County records for today: High 104 degrees at Sadsburyville (1918) / Record low 44 degrees at Phoenixville (1957) / Rain 2.19" at Longwood Gardens (2020)

Kinda normal.   Sometimes they’re very small pop up clouds and sometimes larger.
We get some nice lightning in a black sky out into the gulf too. Fun weather watching.

DFW Airport 100* at 5pm

edit: 6:30pm

Just hit 101 briefly.
Tomorrow may deliver 102-3.  At this point, does it matter?

Definitely seeing some improvement with the forecast for the end of the week into early next week. Should at least see some isolated stuff Thursday and Friday, with cooler conditions on Friday (back into the upper 80s here). Then Sat-Sun I'd say its likely we get at least one shot of rain, possibly two with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s depending on the details. It'll feel nice! Still looks hot again after that but averages are now dropping here.

My father flew out to Chicago last night and my sister told him to pack a long sleeve and pants bc nights get a bit chilly.  I have fond memories of those perfect cool morning walks around my old neighborhood and then late afternoon bon fires.  Enjoy this gorgeous weather.  That's a golden early August forecast...

Meantime, out here I did NOT get to see any storm action as I caught up on some much needed Zzz's.  It did, however, rain across the valley as outflow boundaries popped up some cells right over the downtown area.

Rain, rain, rain here in Maryland. It's been a pretty cool mid-Summer.

I went on a Carribean cruise a few days before the heat wave began here in late June, and was in Florida for the entire month after. Missed the whole thing (it was in the 80s the whole time where I was, 1000 miles south! :)

I recognize you from the americanwx page. I rarely post over there, but I am "BlizzardWx". Nice to see you on here!

But it was surprisingly cool yesterday morning. 69F with lower dew points and a nice breeze is a win in OK in summer.

Could see rain each day for the next few, but Saturday and Sunday are looking like the ones with some real potential. I suspect I'll get at least an inch out of this pattern and some cooler days of course!

Here is a fun fact. The forecast is high in the upper 60’s for Saturday. If that is correct it will be one of the coldest high for any August 10th since 1892 there have only been 5 years when it did not reach 70 or better on August 10th at Grand Rapids.

Guess what guys?  PHX had a BN day in weeks!  The overnight low was a "COOL" 81F and a daytime high of ONLY 104F (105F is avg)....gotta tell ya, it felt good to be in the low 100's!  A couple of near avg days ahead before we warm up a bit over the weekend.  It kinda feels like the worst of the summer heat is behind us.  I don't foresee any long 110F+ days, but I'm sure we can get an Extreme Heat Warning to pop up here and there.

Another 0.47" since midnight here in East Nantmeal - our 3 day total is up to 2.29"
Chances of more showers today and especially tomorrow....the heaviest rain from the remnants of Debby look to especially impact areas west of Chester County but some spots in the county could pick up another inch or two.
By the weekend our temperatures look to fall to below normal levels with highs mainly in the 70's and nights in the 50's with sunny skies - almost an early fall preview.
Chester County records for today: High 104 degrees at Phoenixville (1918) / Low 47 degrees at Coatesville (1989) / Rain 3.21" at West Chester (1985)

You can't ask for weather much better than this!  It was chilly this morning.

Late September vibes out there this morning. The morning low at Kansas City International was 54 degrees, which broke the daily record of 55 set back in 1927. Looking at highs in the mid 70s today. Enjoy!

Upper 60s and a nice NW breeze today. Loving this. 70s in the extended but no real heat. I'm sure we're not done with that yet this summer but I'll take this fall like weather for now!

A bit late but wanted to report we had 2.89" of rain this past Monday. It really came down during the early evening.

It seems we are going to go from an extremely wet July to nothing in August.  Ugh.  I'd much rather have a little more consistency.

In mid July the models were trying to bring in a lot of heat in late July and early August.  That was a total bust.  Cedar Rapids never even hit 90º once.  There was a lot of talk back in spring that this summer would be hot, but that has not happened at all.
