Today is Day 5 of  the record breaking Heat Wave and today will be the HOTTEST day of this streak (115-116F).  It is currently 85F at 6:02am as the daylight begins to emerge to me east.  The orangish glow along the horizon with clear skies could trick me into thinking its a mid July morning.  It certainly felt like it when I went out on my deck to look up into the night sky and see the Big Dipper earlier this morning.

The models continue to extend and build this Heat Wave into next week and we literally are crushing record high temps every...single....Day!  When will we break this Heat?  I'll take a deeper look into this later this morning.

That trough south of Alaska is going to pump that ridge over ya.  Hopefully the pattern changes, we know models can flip fast this time of year.

Just insanity, PHX crushed the old record and set a new one at a remarkable 117F!  Are you kidding me?

And it was 41F yesterday morning in Grayling. I was quite chilly just walking from my car into work and it's only about 30 ft!

Wow!

It's almost October! You have to think that all time high in Death Valley is going to be contested at some point in the next few years.

It’s really unbelievable given the fact that we lost so much daylight already and time to torch.  Nevertheless, Sky Harbor somehow continues to bake 1-2 degrees more than what the models show.  I find this to be a much common theme out here, but when it rains over the airport it tends to be on the lower side of amounts.

92 degrees. Disgustingly hot for the end of September. Air conditioning keep working. Been in the 80’s to 90 most of the week. One cooler day next Tuesday, then back to mid  80’s the rest of the week. Great weather for harvest, but everything else is bone dry. Yards in town look horrendous unless you water all the time. Probably goes down as the driest September on record.

Today is our 5th straight day with measurable rain with .03" since midnight. Some additional shower chances this morning but mainly a cloudy damp and cool few more days ahead before we dry out by Wednesday. Of note we will finish September with our 2nd straight below average temperature month. This is our first back to back below average months since May and June in 2023.

With a current mean temperature of 67.7 for September this will be the 9th warmest September of record at Grand Rapids.  It will be the warmest since 2015 and will have a higher mean than 2017 that had a major heat wave.

Aside from those few cool days, September has been an extension of summer across NMI. It's been truly wonderful and with the early spring this has to be one of the longer warm seasons up north. Unusually so imo. I'm enjoying it while I can by extending my golf season. Nature treated me to this on the 18th hole at sunset last evening. It's the cloud shield from Hellene pulling out.

Mby will end September with just 1.12"  and in September once again a extreme dry spell. 21straight days again with no measurable rain.. The 2nd 21 day rainless period in past 70 days!!!! I dont understand what is happening to Iowa's climate but long ridiculous dry periods are the norm now.  3 to 4 very wet weeks per year. Very disheartening for those that grow lots of things. Oh and Ottumwa airport (OTM) just .71" in September.

Our gloomy weather continues as we close out September and roll into October. Small chances of some showers today with small chances tonight and tomorrow before sun finally returns by Thursday.

On the other side of the country, we continue to bake and fry this week...nothing but sunshine and hot temps...SADLY...there are Zero signs of change in the extended.  In fact, I just happened to see that temps will remain in record territory, every...single...day...all the way into the following week!

Driest month of September on record for Omaha… a paltry 0.09” of rain fell this month.

So much for the plentiful rain and storms of this past late spring and summer… couldn’t imagine how deep in drought we would be without that moisture earlier in the summer. Things are still looking crispy and dry around here after being so green just a month or so ago.

Stats say we had 0.20” for the month. I sure don’t remember it. Tinder dry. No moisture for several more weeks or longer. Any spark and it won’t take much to get fires going. Yuck.

Thanks for including that which sort of confirms my hunch that we're enjoying some rare territory in the Northland extending way beyond "normal".

This is the first genuinely chilly night I have had this season. Which is sad, cuz generally the first cold front that ushers in cooler temps happens in early to mid September, not as we're turning the page into October. 57°F and falling.

I never even heard that S Africa or other parts of southern Africa get any snow, let alone a big storm like this. Weird how other than the Euro styled semi's that could be anywhere USA under a blanket of snow, lol. The grid-locked hwy is just as bad as say Atlanta getting hit. Didn't Greece have a mega-storm a couple yrs back as well?

You'd think this may have been much more common during the little ice age with it's lower temps across the board.

Crazy weather amigo. I think it could be climate change. Who knows, or Ma Nature decided to surprise those people there w/ some of the white stuff.

Yes, Greece has had a couple major snowstorms for their standards (especially in the downtown Athens area, where it snows very little every year), where several inches blanketed the city. Some motorist were stuck and could not go anywhere. Cannot remember that darn dates, but I think it was 2012, 2015 and 2017. Even the beaches were covered in accumulating snowfall. I was stunned. The elevated mountains  were buried in feet of snow. Temps there can get as cold as the lower 20s in the Athens area in a severe cold winter. Those years, Athens saw more than 6" on roadways, some parts approaching a foot. Unheard of.

I found this one ; Year 2022 in Athens Greece - monster snowstorm. Forgot about this one, but there was a bigger winterstorm back in 2012. Cant find that one.

For me, I ended up with 1.25" for September. Max temp of 100 and min of 52. The first third of the month was very reasonable for early September, with one other cooler period near the 22nd, but the rest of the month was quite warm.

Tulsa ended up with 0.32" and slightly above normal temperatures overall.
