Anyone on here interested in chasing one sometime?

Was going to chase this one but my better half talked me out of it.

Probably prudent. This was Siesta Key, over 100 miles from the center at low tide. Tonight’s surge is going to be nasty.

“Extreme wind warning” just issued. You only see those during the big ones.

Big burst of the lightning in the eyewall. Don’t recall anything this intense with Ian or Michael.

Crazy how the eye fits nearly perfectly within the shape of the coastline. Allows for basically the most strengthening possible. Thank god it's moving too fast to fully take advantage of the gulf.

On the other hand, that also means water temps won't take much of a hit at all...

Yeah and any inhibition upon approaching land won’t have time to disrupt the core to any significant degree.

Crazy to have yet another storm undergoing rapid intensification right at landfall. This used to be the exception, not the rule. 🤦‍♂️

And…it’s making landfall over a swamp, which is the worst kind of land at weakening hurricanes.

Seeing multiple mesovortices in the eyewall now. I suspect there’s about to be a change in the structure of the convective envelope.

NB: by “well into” I mean what the NHC forecast cone shows, which is around Moultrie, GA, where they forecast it will be 105 mph. Will be interesting to see whether that holds true.

That's literally my old summertime stomping grounds where my half siblings' dad has his farm/hunting plantation.  Very flat land with lots of pine forest to get absolutely wrecked by the wind.  I don't have any family down there any more thankfully.

Pretty much an oceanic climate with tundra in the higher elevations. It would a good vacation destination though, one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Yeah—they make our climate look downright continental. The major cities have all-time record highs that are only 70 degrees above the record lows.

Edit: Auckland and Wellington actually have a paltry 60 degrees between their all-time highs and low. It’s never been above 90 degrees or below 25 in either city!

Wow. Thank god this thing is moving fast. Less strong on impact and winds won't last nearly as long.
