As if you’ve ever even been out here.

You’re doing a great job pushing away anyone who may be sympathetic to your plight. I don’t get it.

Just got back from a lovely two nights camping at Three Creeks lake south of Sisters, OR. Had thunderstorms both Friday evening and last late afternoon/evening. The one yesterday was pretty exciting with heavy rain at points and VERY close lightning/thunder. It was a good thing we had awnings up.

Otherwise it was partly to mostly sunny with mild temps, highs in the mid 70s and lows around 50 which isn’t all that cold for 6,500’. There was smoke and haze at times but I think we were above most of it.

You know what is great about not caring about what people think about you, it's the not caring what other people think about you, makes life better, more pleasant.

I’m not going to fake my opinions about others here just to strategically get/keep people on my side. I’m not Tim.

Some big improvements on the models while I was out of reception over the weekend. Hopefully they don’t start to backslide now that I'm back and paying attention again 😅

Been a hideously hot start to September locally so hopefully we can make up for some of that in the next week or so.

Looks like it was an 83/59 day here. But already down to a pleasant 68 this evening with a nice marine push moving in. The smoke was pushing east enough to see the very top of Hood while crossing the Glenn Jackson earlier.

Not being an anti-social prick isn’t being fake. If I told the people around me every negative thought I have about them, I’d be a lonely, miserable bastard.

But hey, at least I know how you view me. Duly noted. 👍

I like you a lot Phil. Never said I didn’t. Just because I think you have a tendency to exaggerate things doesn’t mean I don’t think you’re a worthwhile poster.

I think about how costly it would be if a similar or stronger storm happened today. The cost in damages done from the Columbus Day windstorm was on par with some of the costliest hurricanes on record at the time.

It would be really, really bad. Trees around here are stressed from insect damage as well as the extreme heatwaves we’ve had. And over twice as many people live in western WA and OR now.

I can’t imagine what wind gusts of over 100 mph would be like in Portland. Would be like those videos out of Vietnam this week, I guess.

Umm, he wasn't talking about you, try actually reading peoples comments fully.  He just responded to your absolutely unneeded comment.  I have questioned your statements the same way but never received the type of response you gave him.

00z GFS ensembles looking stellar the next 7-10 days. Almost seems too good to be true.

We had some good stuff the second half of August too.  Better than a lot of recent summers at least.

GFS shows a hurricane headed close to Greenland at the end.  Any bets on that one coming true?

Yeah, but once we flipped back to ridgy hell the last few days of August I figured we’d be on the torch train for quite awhile. Nice to see the generally variable theme possibly continue moving deeper into September.

Winds would be even worse because of all the new developments, a lot less trees to slow the wind down.

1962 looked like an earthquake in downtown Portland. Incidentally we had a pretty strong (5.5) earthquake centered in Vancouver just a few weeks later.

From my limited experience, coastal Maine is essentially a continental version of the PNW. Has the same hilly, conifer-dominated landscape and overall vibe.

Summers are the most similar..lots of cool/sunny days with bouts of marine influence too, especially in the morning, but rarely gloomy all day. Only perceivable difference is probably the more frequent thunderstorms in Maine.

Winters are where the similarities end, though. 😂 Even the “warmest” winters will have several bouts of blizzard conditions at the coast. Basically 5+ months where snow is the dominant precip type.

Truth be told, I’m jealous.

When I was younger I tried to find tech jobs that would land me in American Acadia, but alas nothing more than tech support for the county.

Anyway, coastal white pine is nothing like the proper giants of the Pacific Northwest and lobster is overrated.

To be fair, you still haven't actually proven you have been out this way.....  sure you can describe driving by an exit sign for North Bend or you can describe being in a certain part of the area or some very vague pictures, but anyone can thanks to the power of "on the line".

I literally posted a video with me narrating it. Want me to repost it? As if this thread hasn’t gone off the rails enough.

Yeah.  Maine would be pretty nice.  Really nice coastline in spite of the trees not being quite as grand.  I think it's a tossup between Dungeness crab and lobster.  Dungeness is the best crab IMO.  Sadly those invasive green crabs are threatening to harm the local crab population though.
