Do you have all those charts saved? Or do you have a site you can share  with them. http://arctic.som.ou.edu/tburg/products/realtime/strat/ that site doesn't load the images for me anymore.

Can someone tell me how the PV was during ‘16-‘17? It was consistently cold here. Everywhere really I know. Any SSW’s that winter?

About average.

FWIW, the state of the PV is more critical for the PNW in -QBO years. With mature +QBO/niña this winter, it’s possible the NPAC could amplify sufficiently without stratospheric help, although it never hurts.

The grass is always greener on the other side. Except in Portland because it's too D**n hot there.

IMO Seattle area and Puget sound is better than Portland in terms of climo…but also the Puget sound and lakes water access, Olympic mountains and the Washington cascades. I do like central and eastern Oregon a lot more than Eastern Washington though.

Yes, it’s not even close the Oregon coast towns are way better. The far north coast of Washington is pretty cool though but I’m not a big fan of ocean shores, Westport or Long Beach. I’ll take Astoria, seaside or cannon beach over those any day.

Yeah, but none of those have a teen vampire book/movie series based out of them...

Absolutely perfect evening in Portland. Hanging out in the Alberta Street neighborhood.

Shhhhh…. Remember, it’s terrible and dangerous here. Might even be forced to look at some poor people if you’re not careful. Best for folks to stay away.

It was an ugly drive back from Bend. My car was covered by ash and it was super smoky/yucky in Bend. On the way back there were lane closures, delays, pilot cars, fire trucks, helicopters, etc. There are plenty of new fires, unfortunately. Hope we can get some relief in the next few days with cooler temps and perhaps some rain.

Well...the Wenatchee Mountains, Okanogan Highlands, and the Selkirks in NE WA are pretty awesome.

Northern Ireland, the Hebrides, Bergen (all though I think they are on par with us for snow).

There was another comment about the 2° margin between something significantly icier and not, quite a bit of truth to that when you factor valley shadowing and how our geography makes for some epic inversions for a six month window. When you read up on the Cordilleran ice sheet, you learn how easily and quickly that formed in the early throws of previous glaciations.

I read this as “Covington ice sheet” at first and had to do a double take!

Yeah.  Maine would be pretty nice.  Really nice coastline in spite of the trees not being quite as grand.  I think it's a tossup between Dungeness crab and lobster.  Dungeness is the best crab IMO.  Sadly those invasive green crabs are threatening to harm the local crab population though.

Here's an entire limit of dungeness in one pot. A one hour soak. It's good living in the PNW.

Lovely sunset from Mount Tabor park this evening.

Ended up with morning clouds, afternoon sun and a mild 81/59 spread here. Some scenic high clouds moved in late. Currently 68 with a light NW breeze. Looking forward to cooler and hopefully some wetter days ahead.

So we're in agreement Seattle is > than Portland now?

Well the surroundings of Seattle is better than that of Portland, but both cities are shiitholes, maybe 1 less than the other, but both suck. When you think about it, is there really any big city left in the USA that isn't a dump? Maybe salt lake city, I guess it depends if you consider it large enough to be a major city.

I guess there are no Cannabis connoisseurs around here?  that's a shame

Its a shame that nobody here is addicted to what is basically a drug? Not to mention how bad smoking is for you.

Somehow 1 post managed to complain more about the fires and smoke here than all 3 central oregon posters have combined.

Hard to argue with that. Portland does win on affordability though, Vancouver was unaffordable before it was trendy.

No disagreement there. Every place has its sucky aspects. The housing situation is definitely one of Vancouver’s.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Weenies don't bother me any more. Even giant weenies. It was pretty bad in Bend. The worst I've seen since the 2020 fires. It was a bit surreal seeing helicopters flying over HWY 126 with full bucketfulls of water. I've been here nearly 10 years and growing a thick skin happens here or you won't last for long. Weenie me up. I'm kind of hungry.

Weed is so overrated, it just dries you out. Psychedelics is where it's at.. The Earth naturally produces some really incredible stuff. I did something like 50 Ayahuasca journeys while living in AZ a while ago. Would climb up the mountains at midnight and do it up there until the sun rose. Next day is like magic.  You can feel everyone waking up at 4-5am though.
