No, those cold extratropical SSTAs have little if any effect on the pattern. They are merely a low frequency echo of atmospheric circulation tendencies driven by ocean-atmosphere coupling originating in the tropics (very different dynamical situation down there).

Agreed. And this is not mutually exclusive with the PDO being used as a predictive index.

If it’s any consolation, the stuff out now is 10x the crap that I was exposed to in high school. With family and friends straight up addicted in a way that they try to pass off as blasé as the need for a morning cup of coffee but completely blind to how much of a mental wreck they are if they can’t get a hit of their weed pen.

Glad it’s legal, happy some people can be happy with it, but 99/100 potheads I’ve ever met were generally shitty people with some of the most insular worldviews I’ve encountered. Rick Steves is the exception, your unemployed neighbor with a brain of mush is not.

Laughable. I know so many people that HAVE to have a cup of coffee first in the morning otherwise they’re grouchy and pissy. Somehow coffee gets a pass. Also I don’t trust 99/100 stats people throw out.

82F and mostly sunny. Really nice and much cooler than the depressing 90s over and over.

For me I was just burying my anxiety and not growing. I could only do that for so long. I've watched weed completely dissolve the personalities of some of my high school friends... Though my roommate and his work friend smoke weed on a weekly basis, and he's a well rounded guy more or less, more so than me in many ways. Just depends. Everyone's different, and everyone's responsible for themselves. I wish anyone else struggling with addiction the very best.

Way too nuanced. Easier to just say it’s terrible for everyone.

If this storm was coming on Thursday instead of Wednesday, Sunriver would have been in even bigger danger. I don’t think it’ll push 6 miles overnight, but if it had another 24 hours…

I like some Drake. Also Bryan Adams.

Mid '80s Bryan Adams was solid. Not a fan of the rest.

Drake definitely has a handful of good singles (amongst dozens of releases) but his rapping is pretty weak and hopefully Kendrick Lamar put at least a couple of nails in the career coffin.

70 here.  The cooling has been way faster up here, but at least your getting into somewhat tolerable territory.

Almost every study I've seen would support that coffee is at least substantially better for you than weed. Especially if you smoke weed.

But I agree that caffeine addiction is a real thing. When it comes to harmful vices, it's probably pretty far down the list.

We are holding out hope for late September and early October.   We have had some great boat days in October in recent years... including last year during the first weekend of the month.   It was hot out there.

The grass that was all dead brown here is now lush green like May.   It can't get any greener for mid September here.    Hope that means non-stressed trees putting on a fall color show in October.

That's pretty common for this time of year though.

71/53 here today…was some light rain out near port orchard and Bremerton on my way home but dry here at home. Some interesting looking skies on the drive home but the most noticeable thing was the very clear air. Could see rainier and Seattle well from the higher hills of silverdale.

Read somewhere last week that stressed trees actually put on the best color. Wish I saved the article, because I have observed the opposite.

Yeah... 2022 was a stark example of stressed trees not putting on any show at all.   Around here at least it seems like if we get decent rain early in the fall then its good.    Stressed trees tend to just turn brown and then the leaves fall off quickly.   Maybe its different in the Midwest and NE where they get regular summer rain every year.
