September 2024 PNW Weather Discussion

Restaurants prices are just absurd now.  Wonder why that is?

Lots of reasons.  Full serve restaurants operate on razor thin margins. Like 2 or 3%.  It doesn’t take much to erase that and leave them no choice but to raise their prices.

Move over Seattle Storm, another WNBA team is coming back to the PNW and returning to Portland. It remains to be seen if they will be called the Portland Fire like before. Looks like they want the communities input on the name. If they decide to change it I hope they keep it weather related. Since Portland is known for its East Wind, my choice would be the Portland Wind.

“Still to be determined is whether the expansion team will reclaim the Fire name or choose a new one. Bhathal Merage said "everything is on the table" and that the decision will be based on community input.”

I forgot just how cold Feb 2021 was nationally. Absolute ice box in the center of the country.

Nice day to take the boat out of the water for the season.
It’s over.

Mostly because of my busy schedule and not so much about the weather.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

2016-17 ranks well below the best winter of my life.  Plenty cold. but we only had one really good snow and it was late in the season.  That having been said I would take my chances with the same general pattern again.  Details always play out differently.

I feel like if we had a winter with a similar pattern as that one we would do much better in the snow department. Weren’t there like 40-50 sub-40 highs at SEA?

Was just gonna post. Euro is much weaker, though. And cmc has it earlier and weaker going closer to Euro AI track.

Pretty ridiculous and almost certainly overdone like most Goofus fantasy canes, but it does appear conditions will be ripe in the Gulf for something to brew.

Feb 2021 was pretty boring. We actually finished above normal here that month. We had a stretch of warm rain to the south of apparently something happening but folks that don't follow the weather down here had no idea there was anything unusual about the pattern.

One of the more depressing aspects of living in this location and our family's inability to move.

That month featured a pretty top drawer cold air mass up here, with quite a bit of snow.  Short lived though.

Yeah being this far south it was depressing. Having warm rain while there's a party on the forum sucks.

Yeah definitely impressive for SEA. I remember having around 50 or something near that for that winter. Most days in December didn’t hit 40 here.

Could have had more snow if it wasn't for that east wind. It was pissing me off

We've had a lot of very sharp back door cold air masses this decade.  Dec 2021 was a Fraser River special and it treated us very well.  It's quite impressive SEA did as well as they did in Feb 2021 with the cold coming from the east like it did.

That's why I feel like this coming winter will be like 2016-17 and provide for hopefully a lot of mountain wave events with lots of backdoor cold as well as periods of a rex block in the right position that touches off some cutoff lows that stall out as they make landfall around Gold Beach and track inland to Burns.
