Good news for Ben Noll. He’s going to become a meteorologist in Washington DC. He’s been in New Zealand since 2016. I always enjoy his weather analysis and maps.

More interesting place to be a meteorologist than New Zealand, that’s for sure.

For me cold is very important too.  I came up with a very complex winter rating system sometime back.  It's a composite of both SEA and PDX so it's more regional.  I'll post that sometime.

I prefer the simpler method of splitting the difference with OLM. Perhaps including EUG to placate twl.

You need to untrap yourself from this othering way of thinking. There are no enemies or villains in the scientific pursuit of knowledge. You constantly try to "own" the "other side" with your cherrypicked graphs ripped from right wing media outlets. I think you spend far too much time on the internet radicalizing yourself and limiting your own worldview. This planet and all the secrets of life are much bigger than "left" versus "right".

To be fair, nothing he posted was political and then you took it there...

You're also not addressing the actual content. You just tried to brush aside and shoot down that graph because of what it showed. And then you went ad hominem with this post.

Focus on facts.

No, These are all time high temps. I take with a grain of salt because dust bowl basically temporarily changed the climate in the middle of the country. Soil mismanagement by HUMANS.

It wasn't just the dust bowl, though.

And I think it's a simple fallacy to assume the dust bowl was 100% human caused.

EDIT: I see you modified this with later posts admitting a natural component. Smart.

Nobody who is serious is saying this. Just stop.

Are you a climate alarmism denier? Cause it's definitely real. Even if it's not people running around screaming "we're all gonna die!"

Happy to post 500 "news links" if you want.

It’s interesting but just not that enjoyable for me. Snow seems to be by far the most universally loved weather phenomenon by the community here. After that there’s a lot of variation as to how excited (or upset) different posters get about different events. I find the universal love of snow kind of interesting because there’s no real rational reason to get so excited about it and yet there’s this group of people who all stare at street lights hoping to see a stray flake.

I’ve always loved snow since I was a little kid. Me and my brother are both total weather nerds and would watch the models and weather forecasts praying for snow. Even now that I’m 25 and he’s 27 nothings changed! I think if anything I’m more invested after I joined the forum back in October 2018.

There is definitely a weather nerd gene.

Though human influence can play a role too!!

Yeah, but there has been very little of that alarmism on this forum. No one here is saying “Venus by Tuesday” (that’s kind of a meme on Reddit about climate doomerism), so it comes across as misplaced when anyone on here who believes AGW is a serious concern is labeled as brainwashed by certain other posters.

I’d be willing to bet there are more climate change deniers than climate alarmists. I could be totally wrong though.

AGW is absolutely real and the 1930s were absolutely human influenced.

But am I a dum dum for thinking dust clouds might not be favorable for maximizing high temps?

just some playful ribbing.  all good

This one has the ULL over the continent to direct it though.  Pretty unusual to have something to direct it like that.

Yeah that is true. Looks like the cone has shifted slightly west on tonight’s NHC update.

It really does go both ways, of course. I've seen anyone who questions climate alarmism labeled as a denier, on this forum.

Binary views on nuanced topics are stupid.

Referring to people who believe in basic, well established scientific facts as "the global warming crowd" isn't political?

There is at least one person on here who does deny AGW, if I’m not mistaken.

Of course, debating about specifics or scope of impacts is not the same as outright denial that AGW is happening.

Not in the media. And I honestly don't follow strictly right or left sources.

I see way more climate change articles clearly designed to scare you on Google news than I see ones denying climate change.

It's kinda the default for the media to point to climate change as the boogeyman any time there's a natural disaster. Just stupid.

And anyone denying media influence on culture is naive.

Frame it how you want, but meatyrologist's post was derogatory on an individual level towards snow wizard, not to mention obvious ad hominem.

F*ck politics, especially election years.

Ad hominem—perhaps , but then saying people are “brainwashed” surely is ad hominem too?

Except he didn't level that towards a particular individual, unlike the vitriol spewed directly at him.

There is a difference, and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

That’s fair. I did think the post against him was unnecessarily harsh…

Again, implying that climate change is scarier than it is not the equivalent of outright denying that it's real. The actual comparison here would be the lunatics saying that climate change is going to literally kill all humans and people who outright deny it.

I dare you to find a single mainstream media article claiming that we are literally all going to die from climate change.
