This is exactly it.  That's all.  Too many people on here that are just a bunch of p****** that are so easily offended that makes me wonder how they get through each day of their real life.

One of the forum moderators was so offended by my “please no spam” emoji reactions to their political posts on this thread that they went back to the few posts I’ve made over the past couple of months and gave me retributive “no spam” emojis. I assume that’s the type of person you’re referring to, but I will say, I respect the pettiness. It gave me a good laugh.

weird about leaves.  we're late over here, at least in my yard trees are just now starting to hint yellow and red (Birch and Maple). I suspect the extremely warm Fall to this point because my yard is well irrigated so not drought stress on these guys

June 2021 was simply on another level. No other 21st century heatwave has been close to that anomalous.

Not nearly as widespread as some of the crazy 1930s heatwaves, though.

I believe 6/28/21 and 6/29/21 were more anomalous in the areas affected than anything that happened on the plains in the 30s (although the ND 121F was probably about on par with June 2021), but the 30s heat waves were much more prolonged.

Beautiful morning. Most of the larger cottonwoods have already lost their leaves, might be the earliest I have seen out here. There is a touch of color on maples, but the larger ones are still deeply green. The air was cool and damp, the soil smelled like mud cookies, and now with our sun at 40º, the whole day is golden.

Was noticing yesterday quite a few splashes of fall colour showing on the red and Norway maples commonly planted as street trees in Vancouver. Seems early. Hoping for a sudden cool spell in a week or two. That, plus how this summer wasn’t a total torchfest and did feature occasional rainy spells, would spell a good fall colour season.

I feel the same about weenies and downvotes. I mean, someone gave me a batch once on this obscure weather forum that most of the world hasn’t even heard about. I can’t tell you how devastated I was. LOL.

I’m jealous of their ability to get clobbered by huge snowstorms. I have only seen 10” fall in 24 hours once in my life (February 2021, Seattle). That happens every year or two in NYC.

It’s also cool that they can get tropical systems, but don’t usually have to worry about the catastrophic ones, with a couple exceptions.

As Justin said we can get bigger ones though.  This is a really weird climate.  Often boring, but capable of amazing things.  When people came out here in the 19th century they were blown away by the Jekyll and Hyde nature of it.  Back then we had big snows a lot more often, but at the same time the turd winters were every bit as bad as now.

There are a lot of people who agree with you.  He just became more of a negative than a positive.  It really pains me though.  For many years I really enjoyed him being on here.

I would love to see some nice color this year.  I remember that was a hallmark of the autumn of 2008.  Everything came together perfectly that year.

I haven't been able to have any sort of reasonable level-headed conversation with him since he decided about five years ago that he doesn't like me.

NHC just upgraded Helene to a hurricane. They’re now forecasting a peak of 125 mph around landfall.

Meanwhile I’m just hoping PDX gets a quarter inch of rain today. Lol, our climate really is tame isn’t it?

Most states don't get hurricanes...or Columbus Day type storms for that matter.

I think we have had everything go right weather wise, at least north of Portland. If we get some clear and cooler days then that should bring out some nice colors. There are some dogwoods that do an early drop due to heat stress and this year they have only started to turn red.

Our all-time record high is hotter and our all-time record low is colder than NYC, and our all-time snowiest winter is snowier.

Too bad our climate still blows chunks compared to theirs in most ways.

But the good times are really sweet.  I guess that's what keeps me from going totally nuts living here.

That’s true, but that was like a once in 200 year event. Any given stretch of the Gulf Coast will see a major hurricane at least every 20 years, I think. (Other than Tampa! They have good luck.)

The whole “EVERYONE IS SO SOFT HE SHOULDNT BE BANNED” argument is so dumb. It’s not even about people being “soft” or “everyone needs to have thicker skin”. He was clearly a problem and was constantly antagonizing people. The forum has some issues still sometimes but in my opinion it’s much better than having him policing everything people post and driving other folks away. It’s a lot better now that he’s been gone for a couple weeks

Yeah...I am extremely tolerant of stuff like what he did, but it got to be too much.

the calls seem to be coming from inside the house when it comes to decrying the forum for being too triggered or thin-skinned

Here it's all about the exceptional events.  And we are highly capable of those in nearly every category.  We have even had a couple of very respectable tornados.

I suppose that’s true. Back in the early 60s there was actually a tornado in NE Seattle very close to where I grew up, that passed over a young Bill Gates’ house! It crossed Lake Washington and then hit Kirkland. I think it was an F1.

For some reason, the nostalgia is hitting hard for me lately. I remember the inauguration day storm of 93'..almost literally blown down the road as I waited for the school bus. Windstorms, snow storms, floods in 96'. Epically hot summer of 98'. Epic snowstorm in 04'. We all remember the Hanukkah Eve storm of 06'. Never can forget 08'. 2012 was a doozey. A bizarre windstorm that blew through northeast Washington state in August 2015. 17' winter was epic.

What's gonna happen this winter?

So weird that the 1960s had two in King County.  The other was in the Kent Auburn Valley and was an EF2.  Then the big one in Vancouver in 1972.  Quite a 10 year period.

EDIT:  Apparently the 1969 tornado was an EF3.

All I'm going to say right now is there will almost certainly be some decent lowland snow.

I think the Dec 2006 windstorm was actually more impressive than the Inauguration Day storm.  That one might have come down to what location you were in.

My gut says 2006 redux, but also there is that returning feeling that this year is the year that we see something worthy of Storm King.

After a period of flooding rains, Arctic boundary stalls in southern Oregon and lows pinch off from the rex block and make landfall somewhere around Gold Beach and track NE to Burns repeatedly. All the floodwaters freeze with the temp falling to impressive low temps and snow piling up on top of it.
