We should see at least some sun today with temps nearing 70 degrees for the first time since last Friday. We warm to well above normal this weekend with highs in the mid 70's before we fall back to well below normal temps as we move through next week.

Climate Alarmists love to say"there is consensus on climate" While Climate Realists ask "is it true?" Science is of course never about consensus. I will always question the science and provide rigorous data analytics using only the actual climate data. All historical weather data analytics posted by me is specifically for the unique climate specific to Chester County PA.  All data includes only the actual raw non-adjusted NWS certified Coop/AWOS/MADIS climate data for Chester County.  Unlike the data you will find at NOAA/NCEI sites, there have been no post observation computer adjustments made to massage the data .

I'm a snow hound as you may have figured out since this "SUB" became half a country, lol. I just realized your region of focus is like the opposite - one single county. That's odd by my Midwest experience. In order to have so many sites gathering weather data you're talking a lot larger region of our state. One county may have only 1 or 2 cities significant enough to have a long-standing data set like you are listing. And many counties in MI don't have even one. What's different where you are at? Does it have to do with population, or climate, or longer history, or all this variety of elevation? I'm really curious.

It looks like you have as many or maybe more climate stations that you can analyze than I do here in Chester County. Below is a map of dots showing current and past climate sites for Michigan. It looks like you are in Clare County - I took a quick look at I see at least 3 stations with long term data  Gladwin (1892 to Present) / Harrison (1893 - 1985) and Houghton Lake (1912-2022) just in that area. Let me know if I can help you with the data. My county is a very rural county and I have found at least 35 stations across our area with data from 1888 thru now.

This tiny streak of rain showing up on models tonight would be the first precip in my back yard since the end of August.  Most models are showing this just to my south though.  I'm hoping the I80 corridor in Iowa just barely stays on the good side of this.  Even if only a couple tenths of an inch, we could use it.

That's where everything has been recently. Meanwhile, everywhere in the country besides the eastern time zone has been dealing with Southern California climate since late August with zero end in sight.

I was awoke by a strange sound, thunder. It’s been a long time. Despite dark red on the radar, the atmosphere is so dry that we are only receiving light rain. My trees are effectively blocking the rain from even hitting my sidewalk in spots. So our first measurable precipitation since the end of August, but it looks like it won’t be a soaker. I was hoping we’d get a big downpour with these cells, but just not the case.

Still plenty of green here in S MI. Color is delayed by a week or 2. thanks to the very warm days and mild evenings recently.I do however see some color starting to develop. W/ mild days and chilly nights, color should start kicking off rapidly. Better late than never. Temps will be in the 60s for the most part and 40s at night w/ some upper 30s from time to time. Autumn has finally arrived.

No big storms in sight, Just a few fronts from time to time.

A great stretch of weather albeit dry....with the only chance of rain being late Sunday night with the passage of a cold front. Behind the front temps will fall to below normal levels for early October with even some lows in the 30's possible by the middle of next week.

I'd say this is more like it...show me some more maps like these to make it "LOOK" like Autumn, right?  By the early parts of next week into the middle of OCT, I'm looking at a very potent CF to usher in a widespread cool down for the central CONUS.  Utilizing the Bearing Sea Rule (BSR), there were multiple powerful storms that tracked through the Aleutian Islands that support a strong push of cold air down into the Upper MW/MW and points East.  Re-surging cold shots?  Leaves will be turning and blowing!  Happy Friday!

The Cedar Rapids airport finally got a bit of rain overnight (only 0.05").  This is the first measurable precip since late August.  I did not put my gauge out, but none of the nearby personal stations recorded any rain.  The atmosphere is just too dry.

WOW! Terrible pattern here in KC. Very dry Sept. and now a very dry October start and quite warm to hot. Heat wave?...GFS has just that Wednesday through Sunday next weekend.

Got close to 90 yesterday and low 90's may be very well happen tomorrow. No end in sight on our dryness as the next 384hrs on the GFS has a total of ZERO for KC. Moderate drought now and getting worse.

With autumn upon us I thought I would look at the average first freeze along with earliest and latest occurrence across Chester County PA at all 31 available stations. As you might expect the relative lower elevations experience freezes and the end of the growing season about 6 days earlier compared to the somewhat higher spots. There is great variability across the years with the earliest recorded freeze being at Phoenixville on September 17, 1986 and the latest being over 2 months later at Devault 1W on December 2nd 1985. The average date of the first freeze is October 23 at elevations below 407 ft ASL and October 29 above 440 ft ASL.

One important characteristic of the pattern setting up over the NE PAC/Bearing Sea is that the storm systems are having no issue with rapid intensification.  My eyes are set on some big time systems the last couple weeks of the month as a long term, long wave trough sets up over the Eastern CONUS.

Tomorrow's high is forecasted to be 92 with wind gusts up to 30 mph which will create some fire conditions.  Drought monitor took a turn for the worse with severe drought spreading across western Missouri.

This pattern blows lol. Looks like the best we can hope for is a regression to the mean temp wise in a couple weeks (and honestly even that's up in the air) with zero improvement on the precip front.

Weather records have been kept by the NWS office at Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1892 but between 1892 and 1898 there is data that is missing. But starting in 1898 there is good data. This week I will look at the annual mean average temperature for each decade from 1900 to 2019. I also looked at the seasonal snow fall for the same decades.

I will start with 1900 to 1909 the mean annual temperature for the 10-year period was 47.7. The mean snow fall was 43.7”.  The decade from 1910 to 1919 the mean was 48.0 for a increase of +0.3. That decade the average snow fall at GR was 52.2 for a increase of 4.9”. The 1920’s seen an average 10 year mean of 48.3 for another increase of 0.3°.  For snowfall the 10 year average mean  51.8” for a decrease of 0.4” In the dust bow years of the 1930’s the mean at Grand Rapids shot up to 49.8° that was an increase of +1.5° for snow fall the average in the 1930” at Grand Rapids was 56.0” for an increase of +4.2” During the 1940’s the mean temperature at Grand Rapids was 47.8° that was a drop of 2.0° from the 1930’s as for snow fall the mean for that decade was 54.6” that was a decrease of 1.4”. The 1950’s the mean temperature was 47.9 and that was just 0.1° warmer than the 1940’s BUT something changed in the 1950’s for the mean snow fall at Grand Rapids and the mean that decade increased to 77.6” and so far has held up from the lower amounts from between 1900 to 1950. In the 1960’s the mean annual temperature was 47.3 that was a drop of 0.6 form the 1950” and the annual snow fall was now up to 80”. In the 1970’s the average annual mean was 47.0° that was a decline of 0.3° from the 1960’s and became the coolest decade at Grand Rapids. The average snow fall at Grand Rapids was 78.5” In the 1980’s rapid warming started with a mean of 47.8 and that was 0.8° warner then the 70’s.  The mean average snow fall fell to 60.5” The 1980’s was not a good decade for some winter lovers. In the 1990’s the warming continue with a mean of 48.2 that was a increase of +0.4 over the 1980’s as for snow fall that increased to 75.0° The start of the 21st  century seen a mean of 48.7° or an increase of +0.5° to go along with the warmer temperatures that 10 years had a mean snow fall of 86.6” and thus the snowiest decade so far at Grand Rapids. And now for  10 years the mean from 2100 to 2019 was 49.7 and that is a whopping +1.0 warmer than the 2000’s and the average snow fall total dropped to 73.8” So while the period of 1930 to 1939 has been the warmest decade so far the last 40 years have seen a steady increase of temperatures here at Grand Rapids and the next 30 averages will go up even more. Below is a recap of the (12) 10 years means at Grand Rapids.

1900’s mean temperature 47.7 mean snow fall 43.7”

1910’s mean temperature 48.0 mean snow fall 53.7”

1920’s mean temperature 48.3 mean snow fall 51.8”

1930’s mean temperature 49.9 mean snow fall 56.0

Happy Red October Phillies Day to those who celebrate!!! Go Phillies!
A beautiful stretch of autumnal weather on the way with both today and tomorrow reaching above normal high temps in the low 70's before we chill down to well below average highs starting on Monday and thru the rest of the week. Nigh time lows starting tonight will be in the 40's and maybe some 30's by Wednesday morning. Some shower chances increase by Sunday night with a cold frontal passage - otherwise a dry week.

Formal first cold season headline with a Frost Advisory. Saw plenty of it out there too. Brrr but rebounding quickly for a gorgeous autumn Saturday in the Northland.

Something is definitely brewing for this period...my belief is for a big storm as it fits the BSR and the overall pattern but as always, timing of the troughs/blocks will determine if this is just a strong frontal boundary or a wound up storm.  What I like about this potential pattern, is the signal for troughs to track into the 4 corners regions and/or central Rockies starting next weekend.  This is a great sign for the developing new LRC.  Gives me hope for a decent Winter out here in Arizona!  I'm becoming a strong believer the there will be a good Winter for you guys in the MW/GL's.

My mother flew back from the Motherland of Poland 🇵🇱 yesterday and touched down around 2:35pm.  The passing CF through the GL’s was timed perfectly for great weather conditions.  Her flight ✈️ flew right over our W MI crew!

Wow! Early am front way over performed!  Some training mostly to my north. Heavy rain with intermitent pea size hail for over 1 hour!  Best rain in a long time! 1.03" on my ambient gage!

Belated remark, but you were quite lucky being kind of on the south side of the system the other night. I didn't know for sure if it even reached you, but I'm glad it did. Meanwhile I got shafted as usual with only 0.12". Lots of lightning and thunder, but it missed just north and especially south. Lawns are drying up so there's no mowing. Awfully boring pattern though! It may start to break down around mid Oct?
