I have friends in Dallas Texas and Lakeland Florida that both really want us to come down for a visit. Never been but I have no desire…However would probably pick Florida if I had to choose just so I could hang out on the beach.

I think there’s a great chance we get an early season Arctic Blast this cold season. I’m looking at the mid November to mid December timeframe. You’re not going to have to wait long this year Randy! 🌨️ ⛄️

What part of Florida are you reporting from?

Stanwood, Florida!
I noticed the gas station right off the Stanwood/Camano exit planted palm trees in their ditch!

Palm trees always do a lot to class up a place.

Hello, been m.i.a. for a minute, but I wanted to touch in. My husband was reminded by his mother that her parents are living in Seminole FL and chose not to evacuate. I guess their retirement community has hurricane reinforced buildings and they are 6 floors up, so I guess we'll see if they make it through?

Loved November 1985. 9 inches in North Everett and snow on the ground for Apple Cup-fun times

It was great!

It hasn't been well studied but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence for small-scale mountain waves or rotors causing localized bursts of damaging winds during strong windstorms. I've seen a couple of these patches in Olympic NP, they are pretty impressive. Whole groups of old growth all knocked over at the same time.

Interesting.  Seems like something like that may have happened in the area of the photograph

Welcome back. I hope everything is ok, or at least better.

Looking at the meteorological summary from January 1880 it appears Portland had a 15 minute average windspeed of 53 with gusts to 70.  That is incredibly impressive to have a 15 minute average over 50.  Probably on par with Columbus Day.  The strongest recorded gust was 80 at Umatilla.

Kind of had a feeling it was going to happen with the way that roof was basically a tarp.
