January has just about the same sun angle as December.  Historically Jan far outdoes Dec for snow and cold.

12z GEFS is trying to get an Aleutian High going Days 15-16, Nov 15+. Still kind of a weaker signal, but this is the strongest run in that direction yet.  It wouldn't surprise me. October ended up being +150dm over the Aleutian islands

32 currently and the snow is just dumping on us, about 2¼" which brings us to 5" on the season. Took a while for the snow to start sticking to the pavement but now there's maybe half an inch on pavement. The dogs are enjoying it!

Models have been hinting at this evolution off and on for at least a few days now. Seems to keep getting pushed back...but that's often the case.

In any case, looks quite wet which fits the analog pool.

The mountains are going to cash in this month. Skiing is on the Thanksgiving menu for sure. Meanwhile, everyone else in North America is gonna roast.

Up to 16.10" on the year, surpassing last year's total by 1" already. I average 25" so I still have some room to go, but it is nice to be above the dismal results last year with 2 wet months ahead. I think I might see some snow by mid month.

December 2013 probably had less than 1” of precip there.  Unusual and unlikely but we occasionally get a really dry winter month or 2

Wet and chilly. Just 48 degrees outside with moderate rain. Up to 0.44” here so far today. It’s certainly felt like fall since we flipped into the 2nd half of October.

Overall, probably. But at least this month is getting off to a nice start across the West. Looks like I should get my first snowfall or two next week.
