Wet and chilly. Just 48 degrees outside with moderate rain. Up to 0.44” here so far today. It’s certainly felt like fall since we flipped into the 2nd half of October.

Yeah, decidedly wetter for the lowlands the past couple weeks.

Confirmed deaths are up to 205 now for the flooding in Spain caused by a cut-off low (“gota fria” or “DANA” over there). Really sad situation, parts of Valencia were devastated.

The most exciting thing here are some 35 mph wind gusts. But exciting isn’t always good.

Such a weird part of the world. They can average so little rain per year then one cutoff low delivers that amount in a weekend.

I do agree that gloomy rain gets old once we get into January and February. I know it’s part of climo and I do enjoy it early on in fall and winter after we’ve gone a long time without any real rain in the summer.

I don’t mind it as much if we get a decent shot of snow somewhere inbetween to break up the monotony. Even just a handful of sunny days mid winter can be nice too. The worst winters for me are the mild wet bland ones where we don’t get any snow.

That’s what’s nice about being out here. Almost guaranteed to have several chances of snow and no long gloomy period. The cold isn’t for everyone, but sun is more inportant to ne. I hated January’s in Eugene, nearly impossible to get sun with the inversions at the end of the valley.

There might not be any other years your location has seen unbroken snowcover that long, that late in the season. At least since 1900.

I really hope we get a decent snowstorm this winter. Our last truly decent snowstorm was in December 2021. We’ve had a quite a few nickel and dime snowfalls since then. Just one 2” snowfall on 11/30/22. It’s not historically uncommon to go a few years without a 3-6” snowfall in Tacoma.

I know I’ll definitely get more snow living out on the kitsap peninsula. Not going to lie elevation is playing the tiniest role in where I am looking lol. I’ve been waiting to hit 2 years at my current job so I can officially put in offers on a house. I hit my 2 years officially 1 week from today.

Going to go look at houses out on the peninsula this weekend and next weekend as well. Have a few I like, so I may be moved out there before the end of the year we will just have to see could take longer of course. Hopefully no later than February or March of next year.
