Starting to see much more color on the forest.  The alders are leafing out after dropping their tassels and the maples are about ready to blow up too.  I see my young birches and Japanese maples coming around nicely as well.  In the berry patch the Marion’s are branching out, the blueberries are leafing out, the new strawberries are thriving and the grapes are about to put on leaves for the year.  I’m happy with Spring so far this year.  I expected worse. 

Its been pretty decent overall.   We got lots of yard work done this past weekend.

Same here.  That grove of trees behind my house had more branches drop from storms this year than any other in the last 10 years.  It was a job.

One notable thing about this spring so far is we had a pretty solidly warmer than average March, which more often that not hasn’t been the case in recent years.

Same here... the branch pick up task this year was crazy.    I got that done on Sunday morning.

SEA ended up at a perfect 0.0 temp departure for March and 5.16 inches of rain which is 1 inch above normal.     And precip on 25 out of 31 days.

Yeah, in last decade only 2022 and 2016 were comparable regionally.

Very different results the rest of spring those years.

Thought it was funny that we heard today how we are so due for cold weather with a sunny January and 70s in February and 80s in March.  Just like Florida up here.

Actual temp departures this year at SEA:

Jan.   -3.7

Feb.   -3.6

Mar.    0.0

Might be the hottest first 3 months of a year in Seattle.   Just unbelievable torching.

We have been doing the wet and dry cycle thing all year so far.

Cool/wet springs are the best.... They are basically a continuation of real weather rolling over from the winter with the promise of summer still on the horizon. Often with thunderstorms due to natural destabilization. Not to mention how green everything gets toward the solstice!

Warm springs are nice novelty through May, then quickly turn the region brown and parched 2015 style. With three more months of the same weather yet to follow... 2015 style

Yeah, this is the time of year where I think my preferences deviate most from the forum median. I love me some Fall storms, winter cold and snow, and avoiding torches in the summer. But it’s difficult to root for continued gray and cold once we hit April after coming off the big dark.

Easy to say when they are getting 14" of rain in the Tenn valley lol. I think the SW, US will continue its dry streak.. also the SOI is +35 today and +26 yesterday. It's been positive 40 days in a row with the 30-day about to hit +10. April would be the 8th consecutive month of +SOI. If La Nina-like conditions persist, that could be a somewhat drier indicator.. they dryness was a big difference last year from the year before though. im not completely sure we are out of that pattern yet, it may just be a lesser degree of it.

This year hasn't felt very warm or cool. Yeah, there have been some spells, in both directions, but it's been quite the tame stretch of weather going back a ways

If anything's been noticeable it's the dryness, going back to new years

Well with -3.7 and -3.6 departures that is like me saying our warmest summer months in recent years haven't felt very warm or cool.    Some people would take great offense to such goofiness.  

And its actually been wetter than normal since January 30th... do the math on 1/30 - 4/2 period.    The year has been drier than normal thanks to the 1/1 - 1/29 dryness.

DC is probably going to hit 80 for a 6th time already. and two 86F's in there, when Winter ended less than 2 weeks ago! It has not felt that warm though! I guess I'm used to it.

As Phil has said... western troughing is quite deadly for the rest of the country in the spring.    All the credit goes to the Gulf of America.

Seems to be. Usually a trough in the SW, US is best for tornado alley to get hit.. but I guess a more elongated trough further north hits further east.

But it warmed up to 41F in the middle of the night due to cloud cover so frost avoided. What time did your house reach 34F? For us it was 2amish then it bounced back up as clouds came in.
