Walked Waikiki. Way more enjoyable than I thought it would be. I could spend quite a bit of time here.

Finally back home.  Now enjoying the sun here!   Yard looks amazing with everything filled out.   Our cat is really happy to have us back... he won't leave my side.    My sons came by and checked on him a few times while we were gone.    Cats are so easy.

I used to have a friend that had a cat named "EZ". There was also a joke that went with that, but since this is (sorta) a family forum, I'll refrain.

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
Beautiful snow! it can do nothing wrong.

Seems a little puny for a ridge that'll produce mid-80s in Portland on May 1st...

It’s enough to produce warm anomalous air to get there. If this was a little later in the year we would be talking 90 🍔

Sun angle is at 84 degrees there tomorrow.   Actually higher than the temperature!   Sun angle reaches 90 degrees there on May 24th and then decreases in June and they get a couple months of mid-day sun actually coming slightly from the north rather than south.  I am sure you knew all of this but I find that stuff fascinating.

So cool. Is that because they’re south of the Tropic of Cancer? I assume they must have two peak days for sun angle per year with another in July.

I think so.

Just looked it up... Honolulu has a 90-degree sun angle on May 26th and July 15th.    In between those days the sun is slightly from the north at solar noon.   A little farther south in Kona its May 17th and July 24th... so more than 2 months there.

CPC quietly reversing their monthly forecast again. ☠️

Third month in a row they’ve had to adjust warmer in the east as time closes. Never a good sign (from my perspective at least).

(New = Top. Bottom = Old).

It's quite impressive how quickly this incoming trough will die. Goes from a 528dam thickness cold pool with frontal forcing into a glorified westerly in a matter of 24 hours and 500 miles.

00z GFS picking up on the return to troughing around 5/10 once again. Looks nice and wet

It’s a quick hitter. We’ll get more sustained heat in about a month or so.

Yeah... the models are worthless for Hawaii surface details.

Yeah, interesting to watch the local forecasters here. A lot of hand wavy motions about the trade winds and then more mumble mouthing about clouds. I thought it was nonsense, but then bam, the guy on Hawaii News Now was absolutely right about precip on the west side of Oahu.

The preference wars between the two sides of Oahu must be fierce

Hawai'i Fun fact: Local news only added actual weather segments with weather reporters to news casts ..in mid 1980's (estimate)!! I remember the first one...Dan Cook. lol Mainly because the standard forecast is applicable 85% of the time "Mostly Sunny. High in the low to mid 80's. Night and morning Windward and Mauka (mountain side) showers." Oh, and the surf forecast! Most care about that more....including myself growing up there. lol

lack of oxygen from the extreme altitude, though now that I am typing this, he should be able to handle it with no issue after living up on Stampede Pass
