Downtown LA - Will May 2025 average below 70 F for the high?

7 of the last 10 Mays have had below normal average highs in Downtown L.A. and 2 of them averaged below 70 F (2019 and 2023). We are starting this one off with our usual May Gray and a hugely anomalous upper low to move through this weekend. Is climate change making our springs colder? Will May 2025 average below normal for the high?

LA has a great seasonal lag. It really doesn't reach its warmest here until September. I was here in late September 2016, and the heat was unbearable. It was in the upper 90s and into the triple digits.

Also, where you are in LA makes a huge difference. It may have been 81 in Downtown LA, but the high was 78 in Long Beach and only 69 at LAX.

Record highs were set today in Downtown Los Angeles, as well as Long Beach. The old record for Downtown Los Angeles was 95, set back in 1934.

The high today in Long Beach was 95, which smashes the old record of 90, which was set back in 1960.

Heat seeping through this pattern now might be a sign it's headed for a warmer June-July in the SW.
