Wow thats way worse than anything seen in Seattle a couple years ago. Are you guys getting ash fall now too?

No it’s not.

I have a live streaming weather cam with archived video in my signature if you wish to validate my observations. 😉

Dry but not extraordinarily so.

18th driest out of 85 at OLM and 19th driest out of 133 at SLE. Maybe not "extraordinary" but significant.

That makes 7 out of the last 11 that have been very, very dry for big chunks of the region. 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025. Definitely yet another month that has lost its way.

Looks like a drier tendency carries into June

Careful, you're acting pretty sociopathic here

Seeing some pics on the Elon website of the aurora being out already further east. Despite the slightly worse numbers tonight, we might have a shot here shortly

Tim went a little further east than he anticipated!

Can anyone point me to where I can get daily rainfall amounts for the Tacoma Narrows Airport in 2022? Thank you!

This is a PDF link that I generated using amACIS2. It's a plot of daily average temperatures, daily precipitation, snowfall, and snow depth.

Smoke models don't really show it but there is definitely some high level smoke from Canada that has wrapped around to the west and now coming down into WA.

I have seen decent aurora shows every year I have lived here. We have had some decent winters most years.

We haven’t had G4/G5 class geomagnetic storms every year you’ve lived there.

Of course solar/winter connections are state dependent, what hurts in one year may help in another year, the winter cancel one-liners are in-jest on my part.

The effects of solar storming probably did hurt the PNW last winter via augmented +TNH. But that isn’t always the pattern response.

G4 a few years and at least 1 G3 every year. I'm not convinced it has a huge impact on winter.

I don’t really buy the solar implications either…but I’m also not a scientist. From our microscope view of weather in the PNW…last winter still had some decent snow and extended cold all despite major solar activity.

I was mostly trolling since it was a big discussion point last winter.

Next weekend will be our first brutal heat of the year. 80s are a lock region wide Friday thru Sunday. 90s in a lot of places. Maybe upper 90s?

Keep these posts coming. Worked pretty well last time.

All models continue to point to a 2-3 day heat event, with gradual cooling following. 85-90 for SEA, 90-95 for PDX still looks good.

Fairly robust signal for GOA ridge and lower heights/cooler weather in PNW days 10-14.

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
Beautiful snow! it can do nothing wrong.

2 days at 90+ isn’t a heatwave for PDX. Still a good chance the first heatwave of the year waits until the very end of June or July

You'll notice I used the term "heat event".

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Doesn’t look like 80-90s will be locked in for the rest of summer.  Things will likely cool to near seasonable by mid month.  Warm ups and cool downs. 🥶

Still pretty nice - just wondering how the mountains will fare in our typical seasonal dry spell.

You're right, GFS and CMC say screw the 90s and vaults us straight into the 100s.

Deadly, dangerous, and damaging record heat is looking likely for the Portland area for at least several days. Going to be wilting plants, dehydration hospitalizations, fires, and a number of drownings. Hyperthermia in several cases as well.

Of course, the dry season has started much earlier than what is typical. And that’s coming off a much drier than normal winter, especially for the Olympics and North Cascades.

I think you are just trolling here.   Brutal heat wave?   You probably won't touch 80 at your house.    😀
