Not the same.    Of course you know that.   😀

Pretty close though. They're a jam band with a dedicated fan base. It's really not that complicated or weird. I have a friend who is a huge Pearl Jam fan and she's probably seen them at least 50 times. She likes to use it as an excuse to travel the world. Lots of people do this with bands or sports teams. Pretty normal behavior.

One man's fanatic is another's cult member.

A little culty isn't bad, anyway. Lots of things are "cult classics" or have "cult followings", and they don't involve people mindlessly following a psychopathic leader.

That's awesome.  I'm going to miss being able to go into the Canadian Rockies on a whim.  BC's Glacier Park is incredibly underrated.

Phish concerts are mostly about being on drugs with lots of other people at the same time.  Not the same as what you are describing.  Which is cool if that is your thing but it's a tiny percentage of the total population who follow Phish around to hundreds of concerts.

most jamband influences are rooted in either blues and/or jazz at its basic core.  all can be highly improvisational and that's the draw for me.  other influences come in from country, bluegrass, Americana, rock, metal, punk, soul, motown, etc. Heck, Phish even has a couple A cappella songs they sing un amplified in barbershop quartet style. Its a healthy stew of everything poured into one band.  that's part of the allure.

It’s a tiny percentage of the total population that lives in the Cascade foothills.

It's called clown range for a reason.

lol no.  Sure its niche, a hugely popular band that's never had a top 10 hit and very little radio play. Drugs aren't not the main draw for me, its the music.   sure its a party, but so are most major rock concerts.  in my 20s and 30s I raged hard, but I've calmed down in my 40s and 50s.  its a nice escape to go see a weekend of shows a few times a year now to escape mundane 9-5 reality.    I liken the scene to a huge family reunion of like minded folks.  the tailgates are similar to athletic events although there is more of a vending component.  Hardcore tour heads make their living traveling and selling their goods, arts, clothes, food and wares.  It's about community for me.

OMG look at all those clouds on the 4th! With all the back and forth of the weekend forecast, Tim for sure has made backup plans somewhere south or east.

time and place for everything.  I like Americana and Outlaw country.  recently saw Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and Billy Strings.  Also recently saw Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson (as Johnny Blueskies) and Charley Crocket.  Or if you're into singer/song writer TX/Austin sound, check out James McMurtury

Don't think the predicted high is accurate there.    And we are planning to visit my mom in Bellingham... and my sons are in Dallas for a wedding.    Not too concerned about the weather for my own plans.   I just love model tracking.

Actually almost no low clouds even in the morning anywhere.   But potentially high clouds coming in from the east.

Yeah, those app forecasts are rarely very accurate, but are ok at giving a general idea of the pattern. Definitely has the feel like an HCS type of day.

Yeah... the big marine push is happening this evening.    You can see a c-zone cloud signature over King County as well.  Clouds are all gone by tomorrow afternoon with the east side of the Oympics and west sound the last places to clear out early tomorrow afternoon.    Good mixing overall and not the type of low, stagnant marine clouds that get stuck.

I like that you learned about something today and are explaining it to me. I know Phish. I'm telling you you're being just sorta weird and overdramatic about something that's relatively normal in the music scene and just life in general. Take the hint!

😀

I was poking fun at going to 3 concerts of the same band in 3 days.    I am sure that is a pretty common reaction Phish fanatics get.  I am sure its not the first time someone said to them that its sort of cultish.   Because it is!  And I am sure Phish fans roll with it.   I understand @Phishy Wx better as well and it actually sounds sort of fun.

Right smack on some of the most flammable forests in the entire Lower 48. Great to see.

That area is fascinating climatologically. You have basically Oregon Coast-like winter rainfall in some spots coupled with desert-like summers… with year-to-year precipitation variability on par with the monsoonal tropics. Not many places quite like it in North America, or even the world really.

Not to mention snow.

Garfield County/Pomeroy, WA:

2025-2026 Snowfall totals:

HIghest snow total (per event):

Most recent accumulation (non trace):

Days with trace or more snowfall:

First Freeze:  10/15/25

Lowest Temperature: 21F on 12/31/25

Last White Christmas: 2022 at my location (on ground)

Last Subfreezing High: 1/19/26

I had never heard of Phish before so I'm glad to know the meaning of @Phishy Wx name.

There's a fire just east of Hermiston, OR and smoke is flowing overhead.

Leaving for our Hawaii trip tomorrow evening.

Yeah that's pretty seismic. Only get into the low 90s here on the 9th and the triple digit stuff has to wait a few hours #summerisDOA

Want to have a friendly wager about that? Because I am willing to bet that PDX does get blessed with at least one C-note this year.

It knocked 8-10 degrees off the highs for a couple of days most places in the mid range. I said "toned down the warmth", I'd also say that qualifies.

But if you want to argue, that won't stop you.

It legitimately had us hitting 90 again faster than the 12z and reaching a higher peak only a few days later.

Don't know if there is much of a meaningful difference there, Mr. Warden of the Moment.

I think the real question is whether they hit 105 again.

I'd put the odds around 50/50.

Also feel that SEA is due for a triple decker.
