The good news from the initial wave that reached Japan and Alaska is that it was smaller than expected. 1-3ft rather than the expected 10ft. Doesn’t necessarily mean out of the woods with the waves.

Looks like the entire west coast is under a tsunami advisory (which I think basically just means stay out of the water) except for the far NorCal coast which is under a warning (significant inundation possible). What is it about that part of the coast that could make it worse?

The Crescent City, Ca area is suspectible to damaging Tsunamis. In 1964, something like 11 people were killed there and 30 blocks of the city were completely destroyed. The underwater geography funnels and amplifies tsunamis toward the city. My aunt and uncle used to live there although outside of the Tsunami risk zone  They built a fancy seawall there a few years ago.

The 1964 tsunami has a connection with my old town in Cannon Beach, that's why 101 takes the high ground now and why the Sandcastle Contest exists, to get people back to the coast.

In 2011 a Japanese fishing boat was found nearby and the cities bonded over trauma and rebuilding from tsunamis and a cultural exchange program.

Wow that fell apart fast. Models barely have a cohesive impulse now. Not going to get an EML overhead with that, so even if we do get easterlies, precip should evaporate right off the mountain.

It's been an extremely boring stretch of Seattle weather for a few years now

The 2010s were awesome for thunderstorm activity. Almost every time I hung out with my friends I was tracking thunderstorm chances. Just the complete opposite case this decade. Only a handful in five years. Just hurts as a weather lover

I'd say "at least no fires" but the mountains will still get lightning no matter what

Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.

This decade has been exceptionally blah for warm core activity. Last year did give us the two summer events at least, but we haven't had a really high end light show yet this decade.

Possibly correlates to our summers going off a cliff but it may also just be some bad luck, since even the warmest years in the past (1958) occasionally produced some nice setups. With such a relatively small sample size of events to begin with, I think it might just be a bit of happenstance. Obviously the big maxi-ridge drydown of our warm season doesn't help.

Checked with my family on Big Island this morning...only some slight flooding from tsunami on Hilo side, apparently. Thankfully. Hilo has been taken out a couple times by tsunami, btw. They have a museum with some interesting documentation of those events, if you ever find yourself in Hilo.

Same thing happened here on Monday. Car crash though not a fire. Had no power at my house for 14 hours. Had to bust out the generator.

Yeah thankfully it wasn’t as bad as some of the predictions. Hilo is a very cool area…doesn’t get visited as often being on the wet side of the island.

The ring of fire has been shaking lately.  This is unique.
I'm curious if its related to the volcanoes or recent plate movements.

It’s early yet, but today has a high cloud shocker vibe to it. At least for NW Oregon/SW WA.

Had a 90/58 day yesterday. Mildish low of 61 this morning, current temp is 68 with high and mid level clouds moving in from the ESE.

It's pretty bad at my place. Luckily it is still just overhead and has not changed AQI.

Decent model consensus on some rain chances next week.  By then it will be pushing 6 weeks without rain here, unlikely that continues too much longer.
