I have never seen a small cloud like this before…not in this form anyways.
Kind of cool I thought I would share.

  • That silky, smooth top is a pileus cloud, created when strong updrafts in the thunderstorm punch upward so quickly they push moist air above them into condensation.

Yeah... the big marine push is happening this evening.    You can see a c-zone cloud signature over King County as well.  Clouds are all gone by tomorrow afternoon with the east side of the Oympics and west sound the last places to clear out early tomorrow afternoon.    Good mixing overall and not the type of low, stagnant marine clouds that get stuck.

As ECMWF showed yesterday... east side of Olympics and the west sound are the last places to really hold onto the clouds this afternoon.

What does it say for tomorrow from 4 to dark?

For you?   Sunny up there.   High clouds won't make that far north and west.   Of course it won't be sunny after dark.

We get those on cumulonimbi here in the summer, especially on those stagnant flow days in August. Less so during the first half of summer (not sure why).

Considering taking a sweet job in Everett, but I'm genuinely hesitating because I don't want to move off the Ridge and give up my microclimate, lol. The commute would be hell during rush hour, even with a self driving car.

What do y'all think is the best area for snow within an hour of Everett during rush hour? Was thinking about maybe somewhere up north by Mossman. Or even around Lake Samish or Sudden Valley on Lake Whatcomb (I know that would be an hour drive still, but I've always wanted to live near Bellingham)

NO.....just.....no..no....no to Sudden Valley.  You can get a really great house in Sudden Valley for really cheap, and there is a reason for that.  They don't sell.  Sudden Valley is a HOA from hell.  Want to change your landscaping, trim a tree, paint your fence....all subject to approval (for a fee of course) and LOTs of residents more than willing to help the HOA with rules enforcement.

I have no idea how Lake Samish does for snow, I know generally speaking, the canyon can get down right treacherous in the winter time, but I don't know what parts.

Yew Street hill typically does good with the elevation, but I think they are sensitive to the direction the storm is moving in from.  But they are high enough to get snow when we have the "foothill" snow events down to around 500-1000ft.

The best, most interesting weather up here is the north county...pretty much north of the Smith Rd.  Thunderstorms, raging winds in the Frasier outflow, and more snow on average.  Ferndale generally does pretty good.  But, I-5 through Bellingham really sucks, and is backed up often.  Driving down to Everett, you'll probably avoid the morning mess, but afternoons/evenings can suck.  It's not *as* bad now with the number of Canadians coming down being less, but if things ever change and they decide to start coming down here again in mass, I-5 will get worse again.  And, not trying to make any political statements, just sharing observations as someone who lives within about 20 miles of the border.

Your best bet is to probably try to become Randy's neighbor.  I would do it in a heartbeat, but I can't with the current mortgage rates.

No idea what sweet job you found that would be better than being a pleb at SporkEx.

Mt Vernon is about the northern limit of a good commute. If you can WFH for a few days, Skykomish or Gold Bar would be decent climate wise.

KSEA managed a pretty great 69/53 spread today. Underperformed on the high temperature after a cool clear night. Not much in the way of cloudcover, just a more maritime flavor to the lower atmosphere, and decent offshore winds to reinforce it.

Locks in the sub-70 burger in July 2025, too.

We're running a -2/-5 T/Td departure relative to ths time yesterday (now 62/46), with even cooler boundary layer conditions, weak subsidence aloft, dead pressure gradients, and an even drier airmass at the ground. Also technically a few extra seconds of darkness. Conditions are about as ripe for a July 40-burger as they reasonably can be in the second quarter of this beloved 21st century.

Sensor overcorrection?

It’s prevented PDX from scoring its first official heatwave (3 straight 90+ highs) of the year.

Interesting that SEA failed to get to 70.   Our reliable car temp sensor peaked at 75 in Issaquah while driving to T-Mobile around 5:30 and then dropped to 72 after crossing Lake Washington into SODO.   Didn't look at it again when we got close to stadium but BFI had a high of 71.   It was very comfortable at the game and even after dark during fireworks.

The Normandy Beach area is prone to stubborn sound breezes. It's involved with the top of that immediate Puget Sound inversion layer which persists all day below 500' above the water, and how it interacts with and crests over the terrain. SeaTac's sensor is prone to being in the crossfire of persistent "cold fingers", or basically inversion drainage spilling over the terrain and onto the airport. It's a very localized microclimate that can run up to 10F+ colder than the rest of Seattle.

what a day to show up lol. It was like inhaling a hot beverage I swear!!! We got blessed with some beautiful storms yesterday!  I basically sat in a chair in my garage watching the show all evening long and then fell asleep to rolling thunder and rain!
i’m attaching a few pictures prior to the action happening when everything was primed to go off. The rain was so heavy. It was hard to even take pictures as all I could see were pulsating skies of light.

low level airmass is cold enough that it only needs to go isothermic to reach 48/49 or so

From the Rockies to now the Prairies. It was hot in the Rockies even at 4-5k feet, around 85F. The ULL made its presence known yesterday as we arrived at my aunt & uncle’s farm just north of Red Deer. Temps fell to the 50s. But it cleared up nicely.

Edit: Jim would love this. Got down to 40 this morning. High of 68 predicted today around Red Deer, Alberta.

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
Beautiful snow! it can do nothing wrong.

Beautiful holiday morning... might get close to 80 as models are now keeping most of the mid and high level clouds to the south this afternoon.   06Z ECMWF actually shows 82 at SEA today while the GFS shows 79.

Our weekend plans changed because of Mariners game.   My mom is a huge fan and she watches every game so we decided to take her to the game last night and then stay down here for the weekend instead of going up there.
