So weird. I’d picture a member of your family really rolling with the punches with any climate they happened to live in.

Nice to hear from a guy who lives in one of the mildest summer climates in the country and can't even handle that

My brother lives in San Francisco in the city, he says the weather this July has felt like Portland in February and was glad to spend most of the month in much nicer Bend and Seattle. Lol

It looks like this will be the coolest July for CA in quite awhile...at least 2012 or 2011, possibly since 2001.

For SF, coolest since 2012. Same for Bakersfield and downtown LA. Sacramento and Fresno, 2001. San Jose, 2000.

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
Beautiful snow! it can do nothing wrong.

Ocean water temps have been cold all month along the CA coast but have warmed significantly in the last few days.

I wonder how cold it has to be and for long it has to stay that cold to get 18 inches of ice from Seattle to Bremerton.

Real talk I feel like "winter"...in terms of being able to have a proper Arctic airmass impact your particular area and bring potential snowfall varies by location.

For example, down here it usually starts right about Thanksgiving and ends at the end of March.

Been a decent first 2/3 of summer here. June was slightly above average and fairly wet, July has been annoyingly dry with storms just missing the metro in every direction, but right around normal temps.

Closed out July with an 87 / 57 day, almost spot on the monthly mean of 86.7 / 56.1, which in turn is right around the post-2013 "new normal" (+2.5  for the 1991-2020 period, and +4.0 to +5.0 above "old school" normal).

August looks hotter, at least the first half.

Edit to add: goose egg on precipitation

Atleast there’s a decent shot at a soaking rainfall next week. Gfs was on the lighter side but the euro and gem showed a pretty legit by mid August standards event. Looking like at the very least BC will get something.

Will go down with a TR this month here IMBY in the precip department. Joining Eugene, Salem, Hillsboro, Scappoose, Olympia, Shelton, Seattle, Everett, and Port Angeles in not having measurable rain. So a good chunk of the western lowlands.

First month ever (since 2011) I haven't recorded even a trace. Even my dad got 0.03" at his house.

A few light sprinkles here on the evening of the 20th, so definitely a generous trace.

6/21 was the last measurable rain here.
