At the border waiting for my prostate exam. 80 ish and sun.

That reminds me of an old story from high school. I knew this guy named Henry... A bit of a wild dude. His brother though, god, he might have done one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of anyone doing in my life.

Him and the family roll up to the border for a two week stay in Canada. After waiting hours in line, they're at the gate while the guard asks the standard line of questions. "What's your business here?" "Do you plan on bringing anything back?" the standard fare. Anyways, they're almost done with questioning, when they get to the "do you have any guns or weapons on your person?" question, and this dude, without batting an eye, responds with the godbrained statement "yeah nothing in here except for the bomb in the back."

Border patrol deassembled their car, and they didn't end up going to Canada.

Everything I needed to know about Canadian customs came from this show. I figure that I am a guest going into Canada and will do just about anything they need me to do as I want to stay admissible and maybe one day earn citizenship. Coming back into the States though, its always cold stare, direct answers, and a slight undercurrent of anger as they ask me if I have any material on my laptop that they need to be concerned about.

12 of 15 days below normal since 7/18. Could be worse this time of year...

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.

Lots of weak onshore flow.   NB has been 80+ on 9 days since 7/18 which I believe is warmer than normal.

Weak onshore flow is pretty common in summer. Would need actual station data and norms to verify your statement.

Why is this 💩 so important to you?  I can guarantee you at my house it has been above normal for most of this summers days than not, can I back it up, no (and who cares) but living here for as long as I have I know what's up.  And even if you look at the closest station to me, which is only like a mile and half to my south it would not show the same obs as I do here, at my house, that station is right on the river.

When the new averages came out... I remember seeing the peak average temp in the summer out here at Snoqualmie Falls is about the same as SEA at just under 80.

But it seems like in recent years it's becoming more common for the marine layer and marine influence to not make it as far inland as it used to.

Border agents and airport security agents have ZERO sense of humor. There used to be signs in airports saying not to joke, because nothing said in jest would be interpreted that way.

(And they probably got put on a list permanently banning them from entering Canada as well.)

Nowhere near as dramatic, but I had a border crossing go sideways right after we moved up here.  I was in aerospace as an estimator, and we were bidding a job for Air Canada to retrofit their 767s with a new bin system we had designed.  As part of that effort were going up to YVR to survey one of the aircraft that was down for a maintenance check.  Myself and an engineer worked our standard day, went home for a bit then met back at the office about 10pm and headed to the border for our midnight appointment at the maintenance hanger.  We were warned to not say we were going up "to do work" but with our fatigue and the late hour, we applied that warning literally.  So, didn't say we were going "to do work" but we did say we were going "to survey an aircraft" which is basically doing work.

That got us pulled inside for a lengthy discussion to figure out if we were doing a job that a Canadian worker could/should be doing.  Our answers didn't really help our cause (looking back, they were pretty sarcastic), but after about 20-30 minutes of squirming while the grilled us, clacked away on their computer keyboards, whispered back and forth and made a few phone calls, they finally let us go.

The next day after we shared our story and our co-workers finished laughing at us, they said "you were supposed to say you were going up for a meeting"

Luckily we were able to get up there, the aircraft was only in the hanger for that one night, and they had a pretty unique configuration that would have been difficult to figure out with the limited drawing access we had.

Today is the average peak temperature for my location. Lewiston and maybe Spokane had theirs yesterday and other places in Eastern WA have them sometime between the end of July and the first few days of August.

Can still roast but I always look forward to this day.

GFS really cut back on the rain totals next week, unfortunately.

EDIT: 12z Euro looks significantly wetter than GFS, though.

And in Michael Snyder’s latest video, September looks likely to be on the warm and dry side.

There really is hope for smoke season not to be a bust this year.

MD for Central Oregon:

SUMMARY...Scattered afternoon thunderstorms will be capable of

strong to severe wind gusts and mainly small hail. A watch is not

   expected this afternoon.

DISCUSSION...Cumulus towers continue to deepen along and east of the

Cascades in southwest Oregon. This is in response to an approaching

shortwave trough. While these thunderstorms have been slow to move

off of the terrain thus far, continued heating in southern/eastern

Oregon will likely erode remaining MLCIN within the next 1-2 hours.

Additional storm development is likely through the afternoon as

well. With elevated convection associated with a small-scale

perturbation moving through northeast Oregon, development within the

Blue Mountains is less certain. However, additional heating during

the afternoon may still be sufficient for this to occur. Steep low

and mid-level lapse rates and 20-25 kts of shear (which will

marginally improve to near 30 kts with time) will result in

marginally organized storms capable of severe wind gusts.

Thermodynamic profiles will be conducive to mainly small hail, but

isolated hail near 1 inch could occur in the most intense storms.

Yeah, I figured as much since we haven’t seen any Tim posts saying actually, this troughing pattern still brings plenty of sun using the Euro cloud maps! Since yesterday was a marine layer overperformer, some areas around the Sound will go 6 days in a row without meaningful sun during the climo height of summer. Will the warm summer lovers ever catch a break?
