Friday night into Saturday is looking interesting. Best diffluence and 500mb forcing of the summer, potentially a pretty textbook nocturnal setup.

Still cloudy and chilly here so I’m thinking a last second decision to trend east for a few days might be in order for me. 
 

The family and work calendar looks insane starting Saturday through the rest of the month, so a few days on the river just might be the ticket.

That does look nice and smoke is not bad on that side either.

Should clear up there soon... you are in one of the last places left in that rapidly shrinking area of low clouds.   74 and sunny in NB now.

Almost fully burned off here. Still only 64 degrees but should warm up quickly now.

We were above the fog at Shawnigan Lake this morning.  Sunny but hazy and 76F.

Yeah... the entire WA and OR coast is clear except around the Strait.

Gotta say these last few days have felt pretty spectacular and have made me excited for fall. Not working retail anymore! At an office near Paine Field now so I should see a good amount of fringe snowflakes this year. Wonder if Number1AIFSfan has seen some crazy weather since I was last on. Probably some severe thunderstorms and golf ball size hail over there in the Redmond heights. Hope everyone on here had a good summer!

Holden LeCroy's early thoughts are Cascades primarily.

Rod Hill is bullish on chances

I normally wait until 72 hours to make thunderstorm forecasts due to it being on even more of a knives edge than snowstorms. There can be exception if I'm unusually confident, and I'm not there.

Arctic circle vortex now gets down to 5060dm on the 18z GEFS. You hear about 2nd year El Nino's and how the N. Hemisphere warms, but you rarely hear about 2nd year La Nina's and its cooling effect. There has been cold H5 in the pattern since May, which is something we didn't see much of 2020-early 2024. 

^Southern Canada also gets into the 5200sdm there!

If I don't hit 90 this month, August 26th will be my last 90 this year. That'll tie with my 2nd earliest last 90....either way look at that trend, earlier for the first 90, but earlier for the last too.

Longer range, Day 9-15, a Gulf of Alaska low wants to develop and persist on current modeling. It may be a continued above normal temp pattern for the NW through much of September.

Other than the various nebulous thunderstorm threats over the next week, models don't really show much of any weather through the end of their forecast periods.

I will confidently forecast no t-storms within earshot or eyeshot of MBY, because that is how the anti-thunderstorm force field works.

Can the Mariners just forfeit the rest of the season?   My God they are torture to follow.   They are just so bad now.   They don't seem to care at all so probably should follow their lead.

interesting you say that, what little wind we've been getting has been out of the N/NE but feels like a hair dryer.  so weird cause thats the cold direction in winter
