Just drove back home from Helena.  Many shrubs and aspens in YNP are starting to turn yellow.

No one does it like Lytton these days. I feel like they've been ground zero for almost every heat event in recent years.

It’s a hot place.  Spence’s Bridge is often hotter when we drive through the canyon but I don’t think there is a station there anymore.  Lytton actually has 2 stations.  Yesterday, Lytton A was 38.0C and Lytton RCS was 38.2C, so likely the numbers are legit.

I don’t know the answer to that.  
 

Edit.  Looks like Lytton could be close to records the next 3 afternoons as well.

A couple interesting storms in the eastern pacific right now. Lorena is forecast to make landfall in central Baja and then track inland as a dying depression over the SW, but there is a lot of uncertainty about track and rainfall amounts. Meanwhile Kiko is well east of Hawaii and the current NHC forecast cone shows it getting at least vaguely close to the Big Island, as usual an actual landfall looks unlikely but it might cause at least slight impacts there in a week or so.

Lytton’s 40.0C yesterday actually tied the Canadian record for the month of September.  Quite possible they break that record today, as they will likely be right around 40C again.

The amount of mornings with lows in the mid-upper 60s since the last 1/3 of August has been pretty mind numbing. Not to mention the countless days in the upper 80s and higher. Just another 2020s style stretch of warmth that’s hard to even wrap your head around in the context of our pre-2013 warm season climate.

Yea honestly 95/60 type days with full sun and dry air would have been better considering fire season is DOA

BC has seen 1.9 million acres burned so far this year.  Prior to 2017 that area would be second only to 1958.

Gfs Euro and Gem all show varying hit or miss thunderstorm chances coming up. Maybe it’ll work out a bit better atleast for western Washington this time around.

 Gfs and Gem are more insistent on some decent rainfall with a fall like system rotating rain bands for a couple days over WA/OR. Last night’s Euro doesn’t seem to be biting on it yet but all the models do have some rainfall.

Forecast high is 84 here today…but smoke has been keeping temps lower overall in recent days. My guess is we probably only hit 80-82 today.

The tent caterpillar population was epic up between Sultan and Skykomish…Must mean winter is going to be epic as well!

A little Smokey here but better than it was about an hour ago when I got here so that’s good.

Probably going to be a lot smokier east of the mountains as opposed to west of the mountains unfortunately.
