It could be worse, honestly.  We could live in Arizona.

Or, for that matter, Virginia, which shows up quite red on that map as well.

I guess I can start my spring planning this year. I'm planning to guerilla plant poppies in some greenbelts around Everett. I guess I can get started on that now.

I'd love to live in a place that sees snow all the time with long winters. I miss driving so I could one day do that.

Diamond Lake in the central OR Cascades has some permanent residences and sits just shy of a mile above sea level. They average 3-500" of snow a winter and SR138 is plowed regularly, barring the aftermath of extreme winter storms (snow/treefall).

The summer dries out much faster and much more persistently than Yellowstone, and while snow occasionally falls in June/late August, snow tends to end after mid May and doesn't really begin in earnest until October. Temperatures during JJA generally top out in the 50s-70s, avoiding 90F+ heat outside of extreme heatwaves, and the geographical setting is placed above and to the east of thermal troughs, and also in the direct path of thunderstorms that initiate along the upslope from Medford-Klamath Falls north to Crescent.

Probably the perfect climate IMO.

All of the models are pretty dry for the next week but thankfully we’ve gotten enough rain to damper fire concerns…atleast west of the cascades. I’m sure the storm train will get going at some point in the second half of October.

Pretty crazy east/west gradient last month with the pattern. Spokane sets a new monthly record and is +7.7, while SEA is +1.5 and nowhere near a record.

Spokane's previous record warm September, 1938, was also very warm on the westside, though not to the same degree.

Not super cold in the winter either, I believe. Looks like high temps average around 32-35 for that area in the winter.

We just moved to Beaverton - any difference in snow chances between there and central Portland? Alas, the WRCC gives a paltry 1.9” for average yearly snowfall…

Generally worse depending on your elevation.
