I agree. I'm in the 75-100 range (yellow) but it feels and seems a lot wetter than that. I'm doubtful. I've recorded a fair amount for my semi arid climate.

Question for one of you microclimate experts, how snowy do you think this property would be? It's on the south slope of Dow Mountain, right between Lake Cushman and Hood Canal, at about 1800ft elevation. My instinct is this would be one of the snowiest places in the PNW below 2000ft, but I'm not totally sure how snow level usually works in cold air damming setups. Wondering if maybe it would actually be diminishing returns with this elevation in scenarios where it's a Hood Canal special with cold air damming?

Don’t think there would be “diminishing returns” so to speak with cold air damming. Green mountain on the kitsap peninsula sits at 1600’ at gets bonkers snow at times too. That place there probably averages several feet of snow per year atleast.

Lake Cushman itself down a hair above 800' averages almost 100" of mostly wet Hood Canal magic slop every winter along a tight elevation-guided snowfall gradient. I'd imagine the top gets almost twice as much, and would tend to melt off at a slower rate/switch over earlier, ect.

@SpaceRace22 I've done research on that exact mountain myself, and the one huge caveat is that the entire mountain is owned by the Cushman HOA and you'll be paying a heft monthly premium in excess of $200 just to exist as an individual owning property, without any guaranteed electricity/sewage/clean water/gas, you name it. So there's that.

100 inches of wet slop a year would be my ideal climate. Reminds me of some spots in coastal Norway. Now if we could just have a global eruption to make this possible.

Or you could just move to Lake Cushman... its only an hour away as the crow flies.    That seems to be infinitely easier than waiting for an Earth changing eruption.   Even Pinutabo only changed the Earth's climate for like 18 months and I don't think your backyard got 100 inches of snow because of it.  😀

You could also just move a couple miles away on the other side of Rattlesnake ridge... there is a wide variety of home prices available around here.    Or even rent.    We have received 100+ inches of snow in one winter.   Although warning... most of the winter is still spent with a bare ground and rain falling even here.

To me, the fact that there are interludes of bare ground and rain is actually a significant bonus. If you have snow around all year, the novelty starts to wear off. Plus it gets dirty and nasty and isn't very nice after a while anyway. Having some melt off cycles in between drastically increases my enjoyment of each individual snow event. It keeps them exciting and fresh, and being right on the knife's edge with temperatures makes it more satisfying when you do actually get the payoff. Any of us could move to Snoqualmie Pass if we wanted 300" of snow a year within an hour of Seattle, but I think that partly misses the point. Too much of a good thing ruins it.

True I could buy a 900K moss filled dump near rattlesnake ledge or I could spend 3 million on nice home.  😆

Interesting, I knew Lake Cushman was good, but didn't realize it was 100" a year good. In that case, it might be better to be closer to lake level anyway, unless you are okay with being trapped in your house for weeks at a time. I have to imagine that road access up Dow Mountain gets extremely difficult after big storms. The HOA probably plows it eventually, but it appears to be a windy dirt trail along a steep mountain through the forest, so good luck getting up or down until they do.

I totally agree with you on this... I really enjoy our greenery and mild temps in the winter.   Snow is a novelty and more amazing when it happens because it's not the default.
