Beautiful fall colors in Seattle now.  Appears to be peaking.    I apologize for the sun illuminating the trees.   Even Seattle can see sun in November.   Sad but true.

I totally agree with you on this... I really enjoy our greenery and mild temps in the winter.   Snow is a novelty and more amazing when it happens because it's not the default.

100% this. We're the only place in the country, aside from the small areas of hemiboreal forest that dip into northern MN, MI, and ME, that gets to keep significant greenery and vegetation while still getting at least some snow every winter. I don't think people from other snowier climates fully appreciate how much of a difference that makes during winter. Places like the Midwest and Northeast may get a lot of snow, but winter is dead, brown, and barren. Melt offs there don't feel like a breath of fresh air like they do here. They are just a reminder of how lifeless the landscape is that time of year. Evergreen trees RULE

I know its cherry picking... but the 12Z ECMWF continues the idea of a spectacular weekend next week with warm air surging up the west coast and very cold temps in the Midwest.   GFS is on board too.   And I will also say that this happening in early November is a really good sign for cold and snow later on... I will enjoy both if it works out!

I have a strong feeling that there will be snow in the lowlands before the end of the year.

Another perfect fall day.
To be fair I don’t think many are complaining about sun in November lol

The lack of rain today means my wife insists on help outside cleaning out garden... rather than me watching football.   I miss the rain.  :(

Even more amazing when that snow is on the limbs of wetter conifers as opposed to some of the drier varieties found further east.

Had a shower thought on how we are probably "more due" for a winter that would put January 1950 to shame than we are another blah kind of season.

Interesting, I knew Lake Cushman was good, but didn't realize it was 100" a year good. In that case, it might be better to be closer to lake level anyway, unless you are okay with being trapped in your house for weeks at a time. I have to imagine that road access up Dow Mountain gets extremely difficult after big storms. The HOA probably plows it eventually, but it appears to be a windy dirt trail along a steep mountain through the forest, so good luck getting up or down until they do.

I always thought that Lake Cavanaugh was in the neighborhood of Lake Cushman snows, but with the added benefit of being on this side of the Sound.

To me, the fact that there are interludes of bare ground and rain is actually a significant bonus. If you have snow around all year, the novelty starts to wear off. Plus it gets dirty and nasty and isn't very nice after a while anyway. Having some melt off cycles in between drastically increases my enjoyment of each individual snow event. It keeps them exciting and fresh, and being right on the knife's edge with temperatures makes it more satisfying when you do actually get the payoff. Any of us could move to Snoqualmie Pass if we wanted 300" of snow a year within an hour of Seattle, but I think that partly misses the point. Too much of a good thing ruins it.

Maybe I’ll feel different down the road, but snow never gets old to me. 2016-17 was my favorite winter and we had snow on the ground for 3 months.

I refuse to live in the drier microclimates of Montana for this reason.  Dead, barren, and brown landscapes whenever the snow melts.

OTOH, I guess at this elevation we have feet of half-melted slop that lasts well into April and May.  So YMMV.

Pulled out at least 30lbs of potatoes, many large zucchinis, and some ridiculously large carrots we had missed earlier in the fall and they just kept growing.    Garden is officially done now because we cleared out all the beds.   Now have a few months off until prep work begins in March.

I am. I love it! We've got about three and a half months of low solar insolation and nearly three months of pre 5pm sunsets.

I hope we don’t have to worry about solar heating once snow chances come about. No marginal events please

I need the PNA this year to stay perpetually negative.

It was so frustrating last regular season when it went positive right at Thanksgiving then stayed positive for almost the entire fall & winter. Like, what are the probabilities of that?

Last winter could have been so epic tbh. There was ample ridging and strong cold in the polar regions but because ridging was weak and progressive it mostly slid east.

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
Beautiful snow! it can do nothing wrong.
