Last winter could have been so epic tbh. There was ample ridging and strong cold in the polar regions but because ridging was weak and progressive it mostly slid east.

It wasn’t a terrible winter but left a lot to be desired for some locations. We had several 1-2” snowfalls in the first half of February out here but no sub freezing highs or legit cold.

Interesting, I knew Lake Cushman was good, but didn't realize it was 100" a year good. In that case, it might be better to be closer to lake level anyway, unless you are okay with being trapped in your house for weeks at a time. I have to imagine that road access up Dow Mountain gets extremely difficult after big storms. The HOA probably plows it eventually, but it appears to be a windy dirt trail along a steep mountain through the forest, so good luck getting up or down until they do.

I actually have some friends that live up on Lake Cushman. They pay $275/month in HOA dues. The main access road in and out of the area is actually a state highway and is maintained by WSDOT. The HOA plows the roads in and around the community.

They say it snows quite a bit, but most of it is slop and melts before there is a need to get the plows out. However, they do get the occasional "Kitsap special" (even though this is in Mason County) and get absolutely hammered. Not sure if that is worth $275/month in HOA dues.

A Kitsap Special would be very fun to experience tbh. To live somewhere that remote with such high HOA expenses though, probably not worth it just for high snow totals.

My dream location is in the hills north of Mount Constitution on Orcas Island. High enough to frequently get snow and probably gets a ton of NE Fraser winds once the blast begins. Also the San Juans are just so beautiful.

Pretty cool spot, have been up there during all kinds of weather. 3-4’ of snow up there in March 2019.

The north slope of Mt Constitution is a super interesting snow zone I had never thought about. Looks like the property up there is limited, but there are a few options between 1200 and 1800ft or so. I didn't realize how quickly the elevation goes up there on that north shore. You can get some gorgeous, close up ocean views while still being well over 1,000ft. And you're probably right that they could have some very interesting setups there once the Fraser winds crank up...

Definitely going to file this area away on my list. I'm probably going to be in the market for some kind of vacation property within the next few years. Really would like something within 3 hours of Seattle with views and that gets a good amount of snow without getting unreasonable (ie Snoqualmie Pass).

This one is at 1300ft and still has an awesome ocean & Mt Baker view. Maybe some day... https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1669-Day-Lake-Road-Orcas-Island-WA-98245/61002890_zpid/

I can't believe how cheap the property taxes are....They paid $6k for 2025.  My property taxes are almost 6k, and I only have .13 acres (vs. 10+) and I sure as heck don't have that view!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful house, I wish I had a couple mil laying around, I would that up in a heartbeat!

I would gladly take $6! Our property taxes for 2025 were a touch over $8k here (just over 5 acres) The lake house is at just over $9k. (50ft of waterfront)

It was so frustrating last regular season when it went positive right at Thanksgiving then stayed positive for almost the entire fall & winter. Like, what are the probabilities of that?

If it can be perpetually positive, no reason why it cannot be perpetually negative. Boy would that be exciting if that happened

You know which other year had a blah November?

2008.

I moved here in Sept. of 2005.  My house then was at about 400' in east Bremerton.  '05 I remember ( mind you I keep no records ) as just being nice and rainy and cold for and ex-Cali-boy.  I was 40 then.  '06, the big snow then windstorm and temps in the 20's with nothing but a fireplace and a gas range for 5 days.  '07 I seem to remember a bunch of wet snow.  Then '08!  I was in heaven.  I would shovel the driveway each day just to be outside.  Every night me and the ex-wife would walk the neighborhood.  So many people were out.  We need another run of weather like Dec. 2008 for sure.

You guys with memories please feel free to correct me. 😁

I know its cherry picking... but the 12Z ECMWF continues the idea of a spectacular weekend next week with warm air surging up the west coast and very cold temps in the Midwest.   GFS is on board too.   And I will also say that this happening in early November is a really good sign for cold and snow later on... I will enjoy both if it works out!

Last year was terrible here.  There were several snow falls over the peninsula, true. but Bainbridge seemed to have a forcefield around it last year. Never seen anything like it.  Cells would break up, dry out, change course, it was comical in the end,

Putting on my Phil hat here, we need to get out of this +AAM regime (positive angular momentum anomaly = strong north Pac jet) or we’re gonna keep getting hammered with storms off the Pacific. My read of the MJO is that it’s strong and on the wrong side that we want it to be. So it’s probably going to take like a month to wait for the teleconnections to align more in our favor. Thank you for attending my TED talk.
