Snowing hard and 29. Should pick up another inch at least. Roads are super icy… will be messy in the morning.

NICE!

This isn’t meant to be a negative post by any means, so please don’t take it that way! I think at some point you just get tired of tracking all of this year in and year out, especially anything beyond 5 days.

I feel like this year may be finally the year for me. The winter burnout is real and that passion is waning a bit. Thanks y’all for continuing to do the hard work, keep at it with the optimism and let’s hope we get the goodies sooner than later!

Screw that I prefer to agonize over every excruciating detail of every single frame on the GFS through hour 384.

Oh thats sad to hear, I fear if this winter isn’t historically good for us, a lot of people here may also decide to step back.

I cannot compute this…I hope to be in my 90’s and still freaking out (good and bad) when it comes to model/forum riding just like I have for the last 20+ years and before that watching every weather segment and listening to the weather radio waiting for that voice to say “6-10 day outlook calls for much below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation”

It burns you out quick if you take anything more than a week out seriously and it ain’t real until about 2-3 days out.

Man, I legit miss those days. Before the forums, I glued myself to TWC. I took a glimpse of it the other day and not more than 5 mins after, I turned my attention to finishing up the Christmas lightings. I honestly can’t even find myself looking at the models these days. 🤔Miss the good ol’ 90s days.

Hard disagree. I live for the long range when exciting events first start to get some hints in the models. That first moment around day 8-10 when the models all start to snap into agreement on a big event makes every shitty run worth it x10. For me, literally 90% of the fun is the model riding, and only 10% is from the actual event.

You just have to learn to not take the many inevitable failures too hard. Always hold out hope and optimism, but gotta let go of the doom and gloom asap when goes south. Long range chances evaporating used to bother me a lot more, but lately I've learned to (usually) just move on and not care when a rug gets pulled. The faster you can drop the disappointment, forget it even happened, and start looking toward the next opportunity, the better.

Another key is to check out entirely when things get boring, or if the disappointments are getting to be too much. I, like many others, tend to post on here a lot less in the off season for that reason. It gives me the energy to autistically obsess during times like these when the models are starting to flirt with possibilities.

Not looking good, but I won’t give up hope completely until we are within a few days of a potential big event and he’s still not back.

The models giveth and taketh 10 days out. In the meantime, I’m happy for a couple of sub-freezing mornings here and what looks to be a decent mountain snow pattern later this week. Hopefully next week’s AR’s come in a little cooler than modeled to avoid nuking the snowpack.

But it’s the best feeling in the world when the first flakes start to fly knowing you are about to get hammered! Makes it worth every second!

I agree with this take SO HARD. Model riding especially in those winters where it’s almost nonstop (like ‘22-23) makes life a lot more fun during these dark dreary months. Model riding in the winter is basically my equivalent of the Mariners in the spring / summer, they both drive my wife equally crazy (in a loving way). The fun of imagining if that insane GFS run were to verify and seeing the models start to agree on a potential arctic blast 7-10 days out like you mentioned hits so hard. It’s worth the disappointment of the eventual rug pull / water down, because sometimes these events do play out in an epic way that makes all of this worth it.

Can't ski or sled on the 360hr euro.  Snow > model riding.

You can sled on a waffle though. And models waffle all da time.

Remember - you have free will. Unless you're in prison, you don't have to live somewhere that doesn't fulfill your meteorological needs.
