We had the funeral today, several folks chose not to come because of the weather (mostly 70+ year old southerners who have no business being out driving in the snow anyway).

I should note, my mom loved cold spells and snow.  It flurried most of the day, we had the main service inside then had what was probably the quickest gravesite commitment ceremony in history.

 

it was about 24 degrees blowing 20-30, gusting to 50.  Just brutal…The funeral home had employees just stand there holding the various flower arrangements.

Right as the ceremony started, it turned into an absolute snow globe.  It was really friggin cool to see, especially given my mom’s love of the snow.

My sister decided to drive home to Charleston right after the service, and the last I heard, she was doing 10mph on the freeway.  Looks like Charleston got nuked and they had to close the airport.  North side of Atlanta got hit hard too, my cousin made it home, only sliding around a little bit after she got off the freeway.

 

super dry here like a frasier outflow, and I forgot chapstick….go figure, the one time I actually need it.

Looking forward to getting back to the “warm”, humid PNW

I'm too focused on college basketball. I just enjoy trolling idiots that think weather extremes in the SE US has any bearing on long-term effects when things like increasingly oppressive heat in the summer here since 2013 doesn't get the kind of coverage it needs to.

People read too much (of what they want) into weather events both ways. The reality is that AGW means your cold snap or your heat wave now is 1-2 degrees warmer than it would have been 100 years ago. Crazy stuff.

Heard my first frog chorusing yesterday. Should be herald for some cold weather soon maybe albeit it's 57f out again today and after .26" this am. 

Tomorrow will be the 76 anniversary of the coldest day ever for Oregon City, -2f on Feb 2, 1950.  Sigh.  I was a few months away from being born but I felt the chill.

Stevens Pass ended up getting 18" of snow this week, so at least the dire models that showed a record-breaking snow drought were inaccurate.
