Interestingly January 2024 also broke some new ground in the snow dept. 36" max snow depth was the highest for any month in decades, and 4 snows above 9" was double the previous monthly record. It could have been more memorable, but December 2025 just eclipsed that month in every metric imaginable.

I chose 2016 as a 10 year mark and asked Chap GPT "How mant times has it snowed I n Bainbridge Island sine 2016?  Here's the sketchy and sad answer...

Maybe they are picking something up. I was watching Michael Snyder tonight and he said the GFS picked up a Arctic outbreak 16 days before it actually happened. I don't remember the year he talked about but maybe they are doing the same thing this time

The one thing I noticed is what's coming around the high pressure. If the run went out further, I believe that low would reinforce the cold air with the possibility of snow. 

On the 18z GFS you can see one around Alaska but there is one just North of Washington in Vancouver BC about to come down South into the PNW.

That Euro run was special. Full on mountain wave event. Snow with the Arctic front early in the morning 1/16, then temps drop throughout the day into the low 20s by the afternoon.

Or maybe Oswego NY... at least there you have warm summers as well.  I have been watching a storm chaser in the lake effect snow band there this morning and checked out the forecast... casually insane snow amounts!

There are some really cold temperatures in Alaska. I see some below zero temperatures even close to the Coast line. If there was the right setup, some of that cold air could come down to the PNW
