One year ago today winter began. Looking a little behind schedule this year.

These model runs really start to deliver the GOODS by mid month.

I stopped looking at the models several weeks ago but I know when you start liking the models it means a cold onshore flow which is nothing but cold rain for the rest of us lowlanders.

Post frontal cz Slushy is also a plausible outcome

Ensembles start to look decent by vday, but we have had great signals at day 15 a bunch of times now. Hard to put much stock into it yet.

We can now since it’s the first official day of winter!

Nice to see some significant precip appear on the models within the 7-10 day time frame. Been an awfully long dry stretch. Now if we can just get something to verify without it falling apart as the event approaches.

Meanwhile, still in the jinx zone here. Just 0.07" on the day.

January finished at 2.42", or around 40% of normal. Water year total at 14.22", or around 60% of normal.

Tbh, I care a lot more about saving Oregon from some serious water supply problems this summer than whether we see a bit of marginal slop in the lowlands.

I leave for a cruise to Cabo on the 15th.  If it delivers, you're all welcome.

We leave for Miami on 2/19 and then Caribbean cruise and then back to Miami for 5 days.  Need pattern to flip to west cold and warm east.    Let it snow here...  just don't want it to be cold for our trip.

February

It came.

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
Beautiful snow! it can do nothing wrong.

50°F there at 3pm local time. 62°F in Havana, although they had a midnight high of 64 according to NOAA.

Did you weenie me??  😀

We didn't spend thousands of dollars for a Caribbean cruise to be in 35 degree weather!   Need to flip the pattern.
