Also looks like they'll easily break the record for coldest March by about 3 degrees.

Pretty wild that March essentially wound up being a replica of December across western North America. Juneau was in that transition zone for both, hence their all-time record snow season there.

I was thinking about how similar the upper level pattern was between the March heat dome and December.

That pattern in December torched the PNW hard while trapping the Central Valley under a long spell of tule fog. In March, the Central Valley smashed heat records while much of the PNW was sitting under coolish stratiform rain. A few months apart, very different results on the ground.

DEN had its warmest December on record and we're about to crush our warmest March on record. Just incredible pattern persistence this year (as seen by the opposite trends up north).

Both are the first record warm months since 2020.

Hopefully this will assuage many rain lovers’ fears. Should be one of the last winter like systems to come through before the perma ridge

Models are now showing the system early next week splitting and leaving us mostly dry.    Hopefully after tomorrow there won't be much rain.

Perma ridge starting in April, eh? Sounds like delusional sun-worshippers' dream.

Last year, the lowlands saw significant rainstorms/rainy periods in early April, mid April, mid May, and mid/late June.

In 2024, early April, late April, mid May, and early June.

In 2023, early April, mid/late April, early May, and a couple in mid June.

2022...needs no intro.

Spring is still in the early stages. Odds are there will be a good number of "winter-like" rainy days to come before the summer dry season sets in.

For sure.   When I say hopefully not much rain I mean for the next 7-10 days.   There will most definitely be more wet systems in April and May and very likely in June.

Summer like dryness basically set in here around 4/13 last year and on 4/25 in 2023. And I'd say it happened by 3/31 in 2021. So it's not implausible at all to think we're on the precipice of the Big Dry.

Obviously 2022 was different and 2024 was a nice mix of weather patterns and weak systems through the spring. This is another even year, so hopefully that pattern continues.

Lets get half of normal April rain out of the way on the first day!

Thursday looks almost totally dry so this event is just tomorrow for the Seattle area.

Kind of crazy I had more rain and snow than you this month! I have been on the forum since 2018-2019 and this is the first winter I beat you on snow as well. I’m sure it won’t happen again for another 10 years unless I move elsewhere.

Every event where I "beat" the usual winners, its usually a matter of 3 inches vs 1 inch. I guess this event was the largest one... though Feb 2017 was pretty crazy down in the swamp. Even the swampiest swamp areas did better than my place - but I'm not complaining about nearly a foot of snow and some of the best accumulation quality ever (super tall fences and great trees).

60/42 monthly average for March. 1.42" total precipitation.

Driest and warmest March I've recorded here, but records go back only to 2020.

It didn't rain here once in April, 2021.

Also, whatever rain is forecast, take like 10% of what it says and that's usually the amount we get.

Anecdotal, but the tendency for patterns to get "stuck" for long periods of time has seemed to meaningfully increase the last 5-10 years.

Decadal oscillations don't exist? There are a lot of long term configurations that cause patterns to get stuck, and that always happened.

We had "bad" and "good" stretches of winters in the past too.
