D**n, did you not get any precip last week? We got over an inch here so would’ve thought that’d buy us time for fire season. Guess not much made it over the crest.

Even over here the effects of that precipitation haven’t lasted too long. Saw a big brush fire that closed 512 on my way home Sunday and that area had over 1.25” of rain 6 days prior to that. Having a couple days in the 90s really cancelled that rain we had out.

Consistent precip and a lack of dry heat matter a lot more than individual dumps of rain. Despite the big rainstorm of over an inch, the brown-out never skipped a beat, and it's looking way drier now than it did before it rained. I think the problem is that by the time the grass turns brown it's basically dead/in hibernation, and it would take a few weeks of cool wet weather to bloom again.

Brown-outs have always been an annual phenomena sans the mid 1950's, 1962, and 1993, but to get them so early and so harsh year after year has been a uniquely modern phenomena. 2021 outright destroyed large sections of the backyard at my LC place

I water quite a bit but this is May 10th versus June 13th. Used weed and feed for the first time this year and that also seemed to work really well.

Yeah, once the grass starts to brown out it’s very hard to bring it back until late August or so. I’m sure with me watering every other day my backyard will start to dry out in a couple weeks.

When it comes to cool season grasses like those in the PNW, rainfall is mostly irrelevant, they will go dormant in the summer when soil temperatures reach a certain threshold.

Most warm season grasses cannot grow in the PNW, so you’re left with no summer green up and that annual brown out instead.

3.4 region anomaly is up to +0.9c and is keeping pace with 1982, 1997, and 2015 thus far. With another big westerly wind burst soon to start.

Did not get the job and was politely told to not apply for another two years. I’ve got nothing at this point, so going to ride this jet plane into the dirt. The forum should be good for a while and if it gets sketchy then I’ll let you folks know where the life boats are.

Funny how my world changed in a year. Last year I was leading an ops org for one of the largest privately held AI infrastructure labs. Now I’m seriously considering working at Safeway and seeing how getting ran over by a Metro Bus will pay out a benefit to my family.

Anyway, windy in Everett and three beers in.
