Been here since June 15 working on one of the many coal power plants here. Scheduled to be here through Labor Day. Weather has been incredible. Mid to upper 70s into the low 80s majority of the time with a few intense rain showers. Went golfing at Chena Bend Golf Course at Fort Wainwright. Not quite as nice as Chambers Bay (shocker ) . . .  The mosquitoes are a real legitimate threat here. Any amount of time spent outside results in being immediately swarmed. The Murphys eucalyptus bug repellent from Costco works wonders.

 

This is my 1st time spending any amount of time in Fairbanks outside of the airport and I must say, the people & culture here are amazing. Extremely freindly people, not in a hurry and patient during wait times due to road construction. Overall comparable to authentic southern hospitality. Seen a few amazing lightning storms (was unable to capture anything, unfortunately). 

 

24 hours of daylight here still. Pretty cool to make a midnight run to the store for ice cream in broad daylight, LoL! Temperatures seem to remain stable nearly 24 hours a day with "highs" peaking around 2pm. Although rapid temperature shifts occur with the influx of moisture systems. I noticed something rather peculiar (to me, at least) is that weather systems seem to oscillate between NNE & SSW flow. Unlike the west coast where the flow is predominantly eastward off the ocean. Of anyone cares to explain why this is, I'd love to know.

 

Will report later with more weather updates. 

Update: 

Fairbanks weather has been like the photo 90% of the time. Seems to be much more balanced summer weather than that of western Washington. Although there was a brief period of intense thunderstorms that rolled through. The dopplar radar was pure red for nearly 6 hours. Reminds me of phoenix monsoon season.
