Those bald faced hornets are docile.... until you get near it. It's like yellow jackets on steroids when you disturb the nest.

Randy stays much cooler during the summer and more humid. Plus his summer precip is more regular, with semi-consistent CZ's, and him being ~50 miles closer to the AK storm train (that made the difference with last week's rain)

Your area does squeeze the most out of every system, but you see such systems less frequently, and are about as cut off from marine influence as you can get in the Puget Sound basin. Randy's evaporation rates are probably one third yours, and with similar precip overall

Yea that’s a good price. If you had carpenter ants, I hope the damaged wood was replaced./moisture issue was addressed. 

 

yup a qtr plan is perfect for majority of ppl. That will keep everything at bay for the most part. Nobody needs more than that for insects. Rodents are different.

The grass turns extra brown and yellow over here.

Grass isn't dying when they change color. It's just going dormant giving it that color and stopping it from growing. The same grass turns back green once fall arrives.

I guess something about your place prevents dormant grass. Most of the Puget Sound lowlands usually browns out.

Shade, certain types of soil, and wetter/humid microclimates can help retain the green.

Already posted the stats for how different mid May to mid June was at SEA and OLM compared to 2015 (precip included). Obviously results may vary by location...

There are definitely rats in the hedge and in semi neglected landscaping throughout the neighborhood. I’ve seen evidence near my garbage cans but not lately. As far as I can tell they’re not in the house. Im pretty careful to ensure they have no way in. We had them in the crawl space in our last house and that was an expensive problem to fix.

A lot of things could affect your ability to get to the bowl. Maybe you’re finally winning that boss fight after numerous attempts and can’t put down the controller. For one example.

More night sky photos. Taken at 10 PM yesterday. 5:18 AM now

These days since I'm having a long summer vacation of almost 100 days I'm basically taking frequent 105 km (65 mile) drives to somewhere super dark on moonless nights, spend most of the night, then return at morning. 65 miles is the difference between barely seeing 3 stars, and having a perfect night sky. The urban landscape abruptly transitions to wilderness here.
