Crown point is good but you lack a S. View for incoming. If you can make it to Timberline, that would be the spot. 

 

If a cell goes in the Coast Range, Bald Peak might be a distant but good spot. Bonus points if one goes to the south there's a really good viewpoint about 3 miles SE (but it is on a Ridgeline so get out once it gets within 5 miles)

Good to see some local media being objective. BC’s fire season to date is unremarkable. It’s below average. Ontario is another matter. Curious about the western state’ acres burnt to date and how that compares with prior years.

Topped out at 92 IMBY last night and was still 80 when I was putting the garbage out at 8pm.  I got an e-mail from PSE yesterday "encouraging" me to reduce my power consumption from 5pm to 8pm.  Not much we can really do here, I'm not cutting my A/C off during the hottest/most heat soaked part of the day, and we already don't do laundry at night.

We have not had any power issues here, but I was reading last night that the south side and Fairhaven area have had their lights flickering a lot the past couple of days.  I guess the east coast power grid came extremely close to collapsing during a heatwave this summer.  They had to enact emergency provision to tell all of the AI centers (and presumably any other extreme power consuming industries) to get off the grid and onto their own power source within 15 minutes.

I saw Utah’s total acres burned has passed the combined total from 2021-2025.

Yeah, here in CO those were all relatively quiet seasons that we've easily surpassed this year.

However, nowhere near the record-breaking 2020 season...we're at about 35% of the acreage burned that year.

From your link... this is remarkably low.   Either most of BC has already burned in recent years or its been a much cooler/wetter summer overall.    Or both.

Total area burned: 531 square kilometres to date, compared to 8,864 square kilometres last year and a 20-year annual average of 5,089 square kilometres

72 most likely is going to be the official (granted that's the 5 min obs saying it so we'll see). Not a daily record (74 in 2006)

There is an eastern media bias, so the Ontario fires occupied much coverage. That, and good ol’ media doomsday-like reporting of local fires. Both of these feed perception. We drove the Coquihalla last evening.  We were right beside a small forest fire, which excited the kids. And as we got close to Merritt, the plume from the Boston Bar fire darkened the sky despite the sun being up. From that drive alone one could get the perception it’s a bad fire season.

Has anyone looked into the health benefits of wildfire smoke? I saw on Joe Rogan that some athletes prefer to train in poor air quality as it raises testosterone and improves endurance. Then Dr Stefan Burns noted that the third chakra is awoken by the coronal hole moving earth side, further enhanced by the magnetic particles entrapped in the ash.

Looks like that ties the daily record for the OFFICIAL BG station from 2006.

Monthly and all-time record is 72 from 7/1/1942.

Even crazier, downtown Portland had a low of 77 the previous July.
