Last sub 60F high in July here was on July 3rd, 2022.  

That day in 2022 was much wetter than today was though.

Well DCA spiked back to 90°F at 3AM under clear skies.

One of these years there will be a 90°F low. Last night might have done it if winds stayed westerly.

Seeing these national temperature maps makes me think that maybe the PNW's long term real estate outlook is looking pretty good.

Headed home tomorrow via WA20 if I can contain myself lol. I have a habit of creating convoluted routes with the goal of eventually driving most of the major roads & highways in the northern third of WA. I love everything from Winthrop to Ione, seriously can't get enough of it. 

I completely agree with what SmokeLayerFan was saying earlier, there's something about the contrast between the wide open meadows and ponderosa forests east of the Cascades that really tickles me. Makes for some great views. Eastern WA/OR is such an underrated region in general. 

 

 

My wife's grandfather made it a point to never take the same route twice when traveling for vacation or to see family.  A little tricky since his daughter (my mother in law) moved to Oregon to get her Master's degree and stayed...I think he was kinda stuck for the mountain passes, but for the rest of the drive it was always trying to find a new route.

I would love to do that but my wife absolutely HATES road trips or taking the scenic route.  I did branch out when I did solo road trips out to see my son for college.  I too love the contrast in scenery.  I could never live in a desert or eastern Washington/Oregon type environment, but I do love to visit and check it out.

People forget just how good they have it here…Until they open their property tax statement, get gas, and all other things expensive here. But it’s tolerated because of everything you mentioned above. 
 

I see my friends on FB that have moved to Texas, and other areas boating and playing in brown water with a boring landscape behind them…Yuck. And no thanks!

Heavy drizzle has commenced once again. 
 

I was really hoping the cold rain would have deterred the fireworks last night…But no…If it was that loud last night in my typically quiet area, the next two days are going to be unhinged. My dog will be getting extra happy drugs starting late this afternoon in preparation. 
 

Come on people…Stay home…Get on Netflix and watch Poop Cruise documentaries. The 4th is fine, I can deal with one night…But I’m already exhausted from keeping my dog from hurting herself last night until midnight.

It's really more like 80's and you absolutely can get used to it fine.

 

My wife's birthday is in 10 days and we are going to some cabins at valley floor level for the weekend after this one. I am hoping the ridge delays another day or two like the GFS may be hinting at so I am not trying to unload at 4pm in 100 plus heat. 90's with no humidity are fine.

Usually my area doesn't start consistently getting 100's until around mid July. Temps peak here the first week of August on average then sun angles start helping.

I was surprised to see we got 0.39” overnight. Another perfectly timed rain event. We were on the deck until 11 PM, it looks like it started raining shortly after. Weekend weather looks fantastic!

Finally archived my 2025-2026 winter stats. Being from CA, I prefer July 1st as the traditional marker at least in CA before CA WX switched to the fiscal year maybe 20 years ago.

 

EDIT: In CA the traditional measurement of rainfall and precipitation is a year from July 1st to June 30th rather than Jan 1-Dec 31 or October 1st to September 30th because there is usually little rain or snow in the summer.

Been mostly sunny here the past few days. Not super hot so that's nice. Looks like we hit 67 yesterday, 61 Wednesday, and 59 Tuesday. Already 63 right now.

Cruising through some of the data this spring at Silver Falls. Looks like the last freeze will be May 26th, pretty late. A 37/28 day with 1" of snow on April 15th. Overall April was 4.3F above average. 

Some of the lows the park has been putting up over the past year and a half are pretty suspect. Especially the low of 16 in February and 20 on March 9th. I wonder if they have their sensor too low to the ground.

Those long term AI climate models from 2024 did not have an Exateragigamegakilo Nino developing until the 2030s when the Pacific was blood red and the AMOC had collapsed. So maybe, just maybe, a snow weenies dream can continue to live.
