@Clinton, you are going to be near ground zero where the Heat Dome and active NW Flow blossom post 4th/5th.  The troughs keep comin' and likely to continue deep into AUG.  What a relief that would be, ay???  Give or take a couple days of Heat mixed in, this is about as good of an outcome you can ask for.  I feel for those in OK/TX!!!

JMA Weeklies pretty much locked and steady...Keep it Cool and Active!  #Farmers #GrowSeason

I would love to get some shots of rain and get some breaks from the heat.  The monsoon looks to keep going for you and may last a while.  I have a feeling your in for a wet fall also as El Niño begins to flex.

Happy Friday!  Not gonna lie, I'm kinda jealous of the temps back home as a stretch of 70's/low 80's is gearing up for the extended.  If you don't like the Heat, this is mother natures Treat!  #Perfection

Tomorrow will be our second rainfall in almost 4 weeks.   The last one produced around 1.3 inches which was nice, but we need more.   Looks like we should see an inch or so tonight into tomorrow.   This is heaven.    Unfortunately it comes on a saturday during Coast Guard Festival in Grand Haven.

Looking at radar last evening and had same thoughts - in winter this would be a good system for our region. Currently, woke up to first strataform rain since May?? Definitely has that early autumn vibe. Preview of things to come? Sooner than later?

@Hawkeye, you might have the hot magnet bc the Wed period looks quite active for IA.  @OttumwaSnomow, this is that frontal boundary you always speak of that seems to always produce when there is juicy air around.

@Clinton, I see you and your area right around that boundary as well as we get into late week.

This summer up in the Arctic Circle has been one of the coldest ones in recent decades.  Joe Bastardi talks about it quite a bit on his Saturday Summary's.  I'm going to watch his latest video sometime later today but what I wanted to share is another fascinating wx pattern over N.A. that will transpire this week.

Look way up yonder near the Arctic circle as a "mini PV" comes right off the North Pole, then hits the West-Based Greenland Block and tracks into the NW Territories of Canada, then eventually makes its way towards Hudson Bay producing a Fujiwhara effect!  Mind you, this has been a reoccurring theme up there throughout this summer and I'm wondering if we continue to see this evolution into late SEP/Early OCT.

Thinking back to when I remember seeing patterns up in the Arctic and the Archipelago Regions of N Canada, it was back in the Summer of 2013.  I checked the arctic temps that year and yes, it was one of the more colder summers since the past 2 decades.

image.png.41b898065cbfb8944a32211c0afee30d.png

This years summer has been remarkably colder...what does that mean as we along in the coming years, decades?  Climate shift?  Possibly.  #BuildTheGlacier

CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL, CONSTANT AND OF COURSE CYCLICAL We are clearly in a warmer cycle - however there is certainly no climate emergency or existential threat to man! Climate remains a physical system, not a belief or proposition. The data I share will only focus on validated actual climate data and analysis for Chester County PA. I will occasionally share for comparison NOAA's altered historical temperature adjustments. In my view the only documented proof of human induced climate change are these NOAA data adjustments made to the actual raw data from the 1890's that continues through today.

Very pleasant opening of August here. Went down to Okoboji for a concert last night and even the band (who was from Sweden) commented on how nice the weather was. Zero wind or humidity.

Warmer today. Tomorrow looks to be the only day for the foreseeable future that could hit 90.

@Tom I hope this is correct.

i was gonna post in July but my area got missed by the large ULL slowly passing thru Iowa thurs to Sat.

After days of viritually every model, long and short range giving mby 1 to 4 inches I got .42"  of basically rounds of drizzle!

Oddly although many  in my area has only had 1 to 2" past 5 weeks I seemed to catch every little popup!! Abiet they tiny buggers I got 3.94" in July.

Bottom line this place is in a world of its own!!!  Im now 100% convince wapello county Iowa has some weird microclimate!  Some issue with lift that even the models cant figure out!

For example:  in July I had 2 big systems in the models. NWS gave me 70 to 90% chances of inches of rain!  I only got .6 total on those 2 events.

MOST OF MY RAIN FOR YEARS COMES ON DAYS WITH 20 TO 30% CHANCES!!!

Im not kidding over many years my biggest rains of 1 or more inches come on days models thought almost nothing!!

In fact my worst flood came in sept 2017 when we how very low chances of thunderstorms OTTUMWA GOT 8" round after round all night!

The amount of warm season forecast from 70% to 100% that totally bust here would blow your mind.

And dont buy what drought monitor is saying. Parts of wapello county now has cracks your foot would enter! Some ponds 10 ft low! While I know full well other parts of usa level 3 and 4 on drought monitor have had 8 to 10 inches in past 40 days!!!! And they  are pushing 30 inches in 2026.

Heres my take for this sys.

Tues: i80 corridor

Wed: north mo

Some weather history for August 3rd 1970, Hurricane Celia struck the coast of Texas producing wind gusts to 161 mph at Corpus Christi, and estimated wind gusts of 180 mph at Arkansas Pass. The hurricane was the most destructive of record along the Texas coast causing 454 million dollars damage, and also claimed eleven lives. (David Ludlum) (The Weather Channel) 1988,  Thunderstorms developing ahead of a slow moving cold front produced severe weather from the Central High Plains to the Upper Great Lakes Region. Thunderstorms around Fort Collins, CO, produced wind gusts to 74 mph along with marble size hail. Sixteen persons were injured in the storm, most of whom were accidently locked out of their office building, having evacuated it when the fire alarm went off, apparently triggered by lightning. (Storm Data) (The National Weather Summary) and here in Michigan 1964, Muskegon sets an August record and ties their all-time record high temperature at 99 degrees. The temperature hits 100 degrees at Grand Rapids, a record for the date.

Here is some updated information on the upcoming El Nino.  It is look more and more like we should see a mild and dry winter season here in the Great Lakes. There is a lot to read but here is the link.

Not sure I agree with the placement of the risk area for Wednesday from SPC.  I think it should be extended farther north/east.

Beyond that, overall it looks like a fairly active pattern around this area.

The thing that I'm having the most difficulty with for this winter is the precip tendencies.  The composite El Nino dry signal fades a bit/shifts a little southward from the Lakes in super Ninos.  If something is going to fail in this Nino, it's going to be the expectation of a dry winter because I think the idea of warmer than average for the Lakes is pretty well baked in and virtually certain to verify (does not preclude sharp cold spells though, especially as winter goes on).

Today will be the most pleasant day of the week with low relative humidity and temperatures not too far from normal for early August. Shower chances increase again later tomorrow and additional chances remain for the rest of the work week. No total washouts but plenty of shower chances.

2 tornadoes confirmed in IN from Saturday -- one in Indianapolis and one in the eastern part of the state.

Speaking of that, today is 18 years since an EF-2 hit on the northern side of town not really far from here.  It was a day with extreme instability in the region (I believe the ILX sounding had over 8000 J/kg CAPE).  This particular tornado formed on the leading edge of a bow echo.

We had a huge dust storm engulf the valley late last night around 10pm and woke me up to the sounds of the winds roaring through our complex.  There is a lot of dust on my patio deck and definitely needs a cleaning!  Would love to get some storm action to have nature "clear the air" a bit.

Was supposed to send this post like 5 hours ago but I'll to it and a short vid I took in HD showing the vast dust in the air.

I've been eyeing that period for a couple reasons....That is the weekend of the Air and Water show in Chicago 14-16th.  Man, I miss watching the jets roar overhead!  Chitown has the best back drop...all the pilots get very excited when they are recruited for this particular show.  They absolutely love flying and ripping over the city and beaches!   Can you imagine the views from up top???

At 4 pm yesterday i felt wind changed to north here. That CF charged south undercutting the hot air. I knew at that point the good rains would be further south and not pella to iowa city line. It could still wobble north today, not likely. I havd 1 inch now. Thankfull! But once again nothing like models said for my county.

It was a stormy and loud night here as I picked up 1.55" of rain over the last 24 hours. A large part of the Omaha metro area saw between 1-3" of rain last night with training thunderstorms. The highest total was in the Bellevue area (3.25"). Yesterday's short term models nailed the placement of the heavy rain band here locally, for once!

@Clinton, I think the LRC will bust overall for any sustained Heat Wave over the heartland come next week, esp if all this rain is being forecasted!  Practically every Global Ensemble is suggesting AN Precip from the Rockies into the C Plains/MW and Easter Cornbelt.  That would be ideal!

The EPS has even joined camp and pressing the cooler air farther south while its AI counterpart has been steadfast on a stronger push of cooler/wetter weather.  The signal for a west-based -NAO is outstanding.  It makes me wonder if this will become a consistent pattern over NE Canada as we enter Autumn/Winter.  The CFSv2 is locked and loaded for a very strong -NAO.  Could that be the saving grace for Winter fans???  Something I'm pondering about at this long range.

Every day/week its been suggesting a similar 500mb pattern up near Greenland. Consistency is the key.  Let's see how this all plays out.  The PDO flips as the strong jet pounds the west, yet, there should be room for some big dogs down by you and the S Midwest/S Plains.

I would love to see that -NAO hold a be a fixture in this winters pattern. This could be a sign things are changing in the higher latitudes and a new pattern will slowly be constructed.
