Storms blew up all over the central and western valley last evening and overnight.  In fact, I heard rumbles of thunder literally all night long from around midnight and it continues this morning!  Ya'll don't know how much it means to hear and see the storm action.  The DP's have surged into the upper 60's and yes, the aroma of the desert is in full effect this morning!!!

Sky Harbor tacked on about 0.16" so far at the airport while other local stations a few miles north got about 0.50-0.60".

Our muggy warm weather looks to continue through tomorrow with chances of showers and thunderstorms before a cold front crosses the area by later Thursday. Following that front we get an almost autumnal sneak peek with highs Friday through Monday in the upper 70's to around 80 degrees and lows by Saturday morning in the refreshing 50's.

Climate change is real, cyclical and not scary! There is nothing man can do to impact or change it's natural cyclical rhythms.  Of note the Chester County actual raw annual mean temperature from 1893 through 2025 shows very minor and importantly not statistically significant warming of a minor 0.04 degrees per decade since the 1890's. We are in a warmer cycle - however there is no evidence of a "climate emergency" or "existential threat to man!" Climate remains a physical system, not a belief or proposition. When you hear claims that “the science is settled,” remember that the science is built on data that has been repeatedly altered. The raw numbers are not allowed to speak for themselves. They are processed, adjusted, and homogenized until they say what the narrative demands. Real science welcomes scrutiny of its raw data. Climate science hides it behind a wall of algorithms. That should make every curious citizen skeptical. The burden of proof is on those who claim that the warming is real and dangerous. But if the proof relies on manipulated data, then the case collapses. The art of homogenization may be sophisticated, but it cannot conceal the truth forever: the raw data does not support the alarm." We will present the raw data as the best real data available.

Interestingly I felt a little pressure in my ears right when things got crazy.  Never really had that before.  So either something was dropping (tornado) or maybe was about to drop.

I live on the west side, due west of downtown.  We got nothing again this morning, just enough rain to wet the ground.  Since the 4" rain event here on Jul 31st into August 1st, I have received only 0.51" of rain.  Everything has been missing us.  Hopefully, the storms later this week don't miss south like some models have been predicting.

Despite the lack of much rain over the last week+, that 4" event eleven days ago really turbo-charged the grass.  Back in mid July the lawns were really browning.  I was beginning to run the sprinkler in some of the worst spots so the grass wouldn't die.  Now, the lawn is very lush and moist and it is growing like crazy.  I'm mowing every three days.

Internet has been sketchy since the storm, but I saw that supposedly like 95% of my county is without power.  I was driving around earlier trying to find gas and no gas stations are open anywhere, not just in my town but the towns all around here too.  Gonna be a rough go for a while.

Yeah it's a mess.  It's almost like a 30 mile wide tornado went through.  I saw there were fairly widespread velocities of 100-125 mph off the deck as it moved into Lake county IN.

Internet is running a lot more smoothly so had a chance to look at the models, and there are growing indications for another line of storms rolling through here around midday.  It's a high bar to rival what happened today and I wouldn't predict a repeat, but even a comparatively pedestrian line with 50-70 mph winds could have an outsized impact.  Besides a countless amount of downed trees that I saw, there were also a number of trees and power poles that were leaning.

Yeah like I mentioned yesterday, about 95% of my county lost power, and it's the largest outage in history for the utility company.  Almost nobody that lost power yesterday has had power restored yet.

Kind of the opposite situation here... I fully expected to miss all the rain and storms to the north this morning (only a 15-20% chance last night) - however I picked up 0.90" of rain this morning and an early morning wake up call around 4:30am.

Looks like my area had a "heat burst" as well this morning as the thunderstorms quickly weakened/ collapsed overhead (observations are from the Omaha Millard Airport, which is about one mile north of my place). I was at work at the time, so didn't experience this - however my home thermometer recorded temps near 90 this morning before falling back into the upper 70's an hour later.

Edit: Actually, the heat above 100* goes 11 days. We’ll see if it goes longer.

Iowa's State Fair is a big deal in IA- especially DSM where it's held. (personally I don't care for it) -- but here are the hottest temps daily for the IA State Fair. And one must understand that in the past - it may not have been hotter than 1983, but certainly closer than known apples to apples  as the IA State Fair was 10-14 days later in AUG than now back in 36' and 47'.

These records for 83' especially the top 3 ( 108F - 103F and 104F back to back to back  will likely never be touched again in the month of Aug or any month)  And this has nothing to do with the Dust Bowl. one could debate that 83' Aug record of 83.3 monthly mean is more impressive than anything that has happened in July- since it happened outside the dust bowl.

Yesterday afternoon/evening was the biggest Monsoon storm action across the entire valley.  I woke up to temps in the mid 70's, yes folks, can you say refreshing????  As I stepped out on the patio deck earlier this morning, I filled my lungs with wonderful fresh air!  The aroma of the creosote bush is delightful!  It was a sight to see the beautiful cloud formations to my south and west as the valley got pounded by severe warned cells.  #Showtime

Places like Gilbert and Tempe near ASU saw quite a bit of flooding as slow moving cells dumped heavy rain in a matter of minutes.  Things will quiet back down for a bit as we heat later next week.

@Bryan1117, did you get woken up again by nature's alarm clock???  Man, talk about a wicked line of storms that swept through OMA!

Yeah another awesome early morning wake up call from Mother Nature... the worst of the line hit to the north, however we got drenched again and the amount of lightning and thunder with these storms was insane. I picked up another inch and a half of rain, so we are quickly making up any moisture deficits here. That's almost 3" of rain over the last 5 days, which is incredible!

It looks like the pattern change that we have been waiting for has arrived... with plenty more chances for rain and storms the next 3-4 days. Looks like our friends to the east in Iowa have joined in the fun too!

Today will be our last day with higher humidity. We should cooler weather both tomorrow and especially on Saturday. However, we turn more humid and wetter again by later Sunday into Monday. Drier and near normal temperatures arrive by next Tuesday.

@Clinton, the JMA was right about a possible surge of the Heat northward into your area...BUT...there is a very good chance it will be the last of the Summer Met season heat for you and many others.

Day 3-9...

Week 2...The Monsoon will fire back up and continue well into SEP...

Week 3-4...No Bueno for our friends in TX/OK as they can't catch a break!  Maybe, just maybe, we can start seeing more tropical activity and surges of E PAC and Gulf of America moisture.  That's a nice looking trough signal for our cornbelt/ag belt of the Heartland and Midwest/OHV.  How long has it been since a decent September and/or Labor Day weekend happened in the midwest without oppressing heat and humidity?  Maybe things can end up being a bit nicer and refreshing this year.

It's about a 1/4 past 9am, and it feels like the good ol' Midwest out there...86F/70F

I like the sounds of that!  Models are showing some rain chances for my area this weekend and a brief break in the heat Monday and Tues.  The Euro is showing some nasty heat with temps well over 100 between 20th-26th, I hope its off it's rocker a little bit.
