The Little Giant Fire is carrying embers all the way to Chelan and is causing spot fires now.

Real worried about the heat coming next week after the much cooler week we just had. Even some rain on Saturday. All that smoke east of the Cascade's is going to have a offshore flow field day west of the Cascade's... I guess positively it will keep temps lower than the forecasts expect.

Still lots of fire season left and Sunday is still breezy here but with the warning almost done here, SE WA appears that they may escape this one based on Watch Duty. Of course it doesn't count small fires that may have been quickly quenched but looks good for Walla Walla, Columbia, Garfield, Asotin, Whitman, and Adams. But so sad for my friends and coworkers in Spokane. Spokane is my company's 2nd of three main offices (the others are in south Snoco and Anchorage) so I bet several of my coworkers had evacuation orders.

Don’t know why you’d want to do that but I guess people see “extreme fire danger” warnings on the news and take advantage…

It’s terms of the “big ones” this just isn’t true. Paradise, Sonoma, Boulder, Lahaina, Altadena all weren’t arson. Palisades was but it wasn’t during the high wind event, so still applies that you don’t typically see arson as the cause of the more major events during these types of windstorms.

This is pretty much what happened after a hell week back in 2001. The smoke created some pretty intense inversions which led to some primo conditions for crews to get a handle on things. In Okanogan County there were a couple days where it was around 105 with full sun Omak north while south county was in the mid 70’s socked in.

Very close to spot fires falling into the city and not enough crews to get a handle on it. Scary shitt.

Lots of smoke and heat for PDX starting tomorrow.  That thermal trough has really strengthened on models the last few days increasing the odds of the smoke and the heat.

This morning is cool though, 46.9.

These fires are an excellent reminder why those who cheer for sunshine and warmth are deeply, deeply immoral, and frankly evil human beings.

It takes a profound lack of empathy to step outside into a sweltering, bone dry furnace, inhale the pulverized ash of a burning forest and homes, and think, "Yes, this is the ideal climate." How completely disconnected from reality do you have to be to equate prolonged heat waves and desiccated earth with "good weather"? Truly despicable, psychotic behavior.

Just sad about Spokane and all the houses lost.  My journey’s home starts in the morning, so I’ll I guess I’ll be greeted with smoke as I travel :(

Rain and chilly on the west side of the cascades equals devastation east of the cascades this time of the year.

Sounds like over 600 structures burned so far with that Spokane area fire. Many are in suburbs/housing developments…If I ever move over to that climate zone (E.Wa/Idaho/Montana area) I will want to be on acreage spread out from my neighbors much like I am now because I don’t like people that close to me…The house will either be built or retrofitted with materials that are hard to burn…With a rock garden and trees/etc far enough from the house to not be a big factor. 
 

The house will be in a big bubble of defensible space…As much as I love living in the trees it would be too much of a risk over there. 
For the house…Metal roof, soffits and vents that would not allow embers to enter, concrete type siding materials, the whole 9 yards. It’s too big of a risk over there anymore not to have as much fire proofed houses as possible.

Yeah offshore flow arrives on Monday as smoke makes its way West of the Cascades. By Tuesday the smoke forecast has almost all of Oregon in the smoke.

Almost the entirety of Oregon will be breathing toxic smoke for several days. Western WA avoids it to start, but skies will still be hazy.

That can’t be right. The Cottonwood and Babylon fires burned over 200k in Utah. Colorado had over 200K between the Aspen, Ferris, and Gold Mountain fires. Of there have been others too.
