I think I may turn it on later today but for now I'm alright. It's currently the coolest morning of this autumn season (42F) and still may dip a degree or two. With temps not really rebounding much more than 50-ish, I may also fire up the furnace to take a chill off. However, with temps still in the 40’s along with overcast skies, I think I’ll give in and flip it on later. No need to wait any longer! CentralNebWeather
Just looked at the forecast for next week. Back to 80’s everyday with low humidity, high fire danger, no rain chances. I’m just shaking my head again. I think our May-October has a chance to be one of the driest 6 month periods in our history, especially if the pattern doesn’t turn stormy in the 2nd half of this month.

Tom
Boy, after a couple chilly days and nights ahead, I love the looks of the 7 day forecast which shows plenty of 70's and sunshine. Next weekend looks superb as round 2 of Indian Summer weather targets the region...possible upper 70's??? That's going to feel wonderful with a strong southerly breeze as a powerful storm system targets the west coast and then tracks into the Rockies. The seasons 1st legit Autumn storm is poised to hit that part of the country and then track into the Upper MW region early the following week. After a very quiet week of wx, it's going to pick up in activity for our Sub as we head towards the Week of the 12th. In this fascinating world of wx, we have to think Globally to forecast Locally. With that being said, in this LR post we take a gander towards East Asia to forecast our local wx pattern. I typically like to pay attn to what is happening near the Sea of Okhkosh where there is a strong storm system about to track through today/tomorrow and due to this track, it will target the PAC NW/W NAMER coast in about 6 days or so. Here is a map showing the near term forecast... Then the storm appears across the western N.A. coastline in 5-6 days...this type of pattern will keep the storm train coming into the west coast which will undoubetdly help the forest fires and begin building up the snow pack in the Rockies in A-typical La Nina fashion. Once again, the models are seeing another powerful storm tracking through the same parts of East Asia Day 10 which suggests to me another storm will hit the west coast about Oct 20th-21st but then this region may be replaced by a ridge which could lead to a western N.A. Ridge by the time we enter the week of the 25th. There are some major influencing factors I'm seeing in this developing LRC that will play a big role for our Sub and that starts in the Arctic as well as Greenland. The big storm showing up early next week will be influenced by this blocking pattern and likely spin up a slow moving, strong autumn storm for the Upper MW. It's nice to see the models advertising such a big system as we gear up and begin the process of setting up the new LRC pattern. This 00z Euro 500mb map is pretty to look at as it gives hope for precip across the central Plains where they need it...did I mention that Greenland Block??? Fast forward 2 months and December could rock! 1

Stormy
This is off topic. I’ve been hibernating at home for the last two weeks. I’m thinking I likely have COVID-19 this time. I haven’t tested but I had about all the symptoms, and still can’t smell anything! The worst was the bad headache I had one night which cleared up once I took a nasal decongestant. Also had a low grade fever which made me achy all over. I’m almost back to normal now, except for a lot of coughing. I thought I had this virus last spring, but I guess it was just a sore throat (no sore throat this time) and cold that time. Seems to be another virus outbreak around here kinda like last spring. Some more local people have tested positive including my uncle and his wife who are in their mid 80s. My mom who is the same age also seems to have it, but she wasn’t as sick as I was, thankfully. My brother who sometimes has asthma problems had it less severe as well. So far, only one person I know was hospitalized. For me this wasn’t worse than other sicknesses I’ve had over the year’s and I’m hoping it’s over and done with. Symptoms started a few days after I was in CR. so maybe I picked it up from there? The local paper stated that my county and another one in central Iowa had the highest per capita infection rate in the world at one point in September. Not sure if I believe that though. 3

Glad to hear your doing better...eat that organic food from your garden and you’ll be just fine! I’ll be honest, I thought I was getting a sore throat yesterday after I went for a long walk. The colder house also made it feel sorta chilly but then I felt better after I drank some herbal tea and flipped on the furnace. I took 3 drops of Oil of Oregano this morning and feel great! Nature cures! 1

Tom
It's the coldest morning of the season with a local wx station reporting 33.3F. Brrrr! When I was making my coffee a bit ago, I opened up my backyard door and stepped outside on my deck and took in a deep breath to soak in that chilly air! I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I just have to "feel" that cold air from nature.
westMJim
The official low at Grand Rapids looks to have been 32. Here at my house the low was 34. And there was some fog. I am not a big fan of naming winter storms, unless the storm is really extreme. I am not sure what my criteria would be for a named winter storms but some examples would the the storms of 1967, 1978 the so called Groundhog storm of 2011. There would be others but you get the idea. Well here are the Weather Chanel names for this winters storms. https://weather.com/storms/winter/news/2020-09-30-winter-storm-names-2020-2021

Minny_Weather
GEFS shows a cooldown as early as day 10. EPS is back to miserable boringness. There's really nothing better to do right now than live and die by every run of every model. 1 Quote Formerly *ahem*: LNK_Weather, TOL_Weather, FAR_Weather, MSP_Weather, IMoveALot_Weather. Ya, was surprised this morning to see the 00z EPS back off and then the GEFS trend colder and with more blocking. I'd pay attn to the GEFS trends so far as it would fit the idea of where the blocking is growing stronger as we get closer in time. Check this out...the placement where the warming at 10mb is blossoming right about the Sept 24th-25th...correlates quite well where the GEFS are trending stronger with regards to HP placement across NW NAMER... 06z GEFS SLP trends....
Tom
Earlier this morning I went for a walk around 7:00am and I will confirm we had our 1st Frost of the year! It was wonderful to see the frosty landscape and rooftops along with steam coming out of the chimney's of houses. The wind was so calm and the skies were amazing blue. #AutumnIsHere

Almost no trees and even very little vegetation. Polar opposite of Michigan. Food sure looks tasty tho. I really like the old world architecture as well. Does one need to know how to speak Greek, or is English commonly used there? Its extremely dry there in the Summertime. All ya see is dry heat, sun and deep blue skies w temps in the 80s and 90s on the islands and 90s and 100s in Athens, sometimes on a rare occasion, Athens hits the 110s. Almost everyone there now knows how to speak the English language. If you ever decide to visit there, you should have no problem communicating. 2 1 Quote Snowfall for Winter 2023 -24 for Metro Detroit Area Oct 2023: 0.2" AN Nov 2023: 2.2" AN Dec 2023: 0.5" BN Insane!
