I decided it might be time to come back.  I still have nightmares about last winter, but it's time to move on.  My God what a flaming turd that was!  A poor man's 1933-34 if ever there was one. A

Between the fall colors of the thread, and what my kids put on the windows…I’m fully depressed now. Could have used one more summer month as it screamed by way too fast. ?

I hear ya. My wife started decorating the porch with fall stuff yesterday. I said, "Excuse me ma'am, it's not September yet. Let me enjoy my last summer day" which prompted a big eye roll. Today, no holding back. Fall is her favorite time of year so she has been itching to get started and turn the page.

We already have some living room halloween decor out. She does this but then poo poos my idea to go all out Christmas for Halloween and all out Halloween for Christmas.

The sun is doing its job by denying us 90º weather after the 28th. The mean looks drier, which with the activity in the Pacific looks to be more of an artifact of model uncertainty than @SeattleMarineLayerFan looking to bless us all with ashfall later this month.

For me, the turn of the seasons are usually bittersweet, especially transition from spring to summer and summer to fall.

Weather related stuff, could probably go another month. Wouldn't mind it. But actual summer summer on the calendar. No. Kids gotta go back to school a late end to summer means the kids will be in classes until late July.

Personal preference, I don't really look forward to fall until October.

Yeah, I’d prefer September be a continuation of summer from a weather perspective. Plenty of time for rain over the next eight months.

I think it’s late summer.
April and May = early summer

June July August = summer

September = late summer.

Historically, I don't think we have to worry about it, the rainy season don't usually ramp up until late September anyway. Rainfall average-wise, September is about the same as June... these are the transition months.

Growing up at the coast, I’m hard wired for September to be summerific. The seasonal lag out there is pretty legit as Astoria’s average high doesn’t start to drop off from its annual max until 9/10. A lot of sticky sweaty bus rides as a kid in September and early October.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

Tis’ the season.  The jet stream starts to crank up in September but usually remains to our north.  September can be very wet on the North and central coasts of BC

We still have a full month plus where we can see 90+.

Only about a week to go on 100+ so we're likely safe there

Two weeks to go until we can freeze.

Jury says it's still summer.

As a dirt stained child, it didn't feel like fall until sunset was before 7:30pm and I could watch the Simpson's without getting in trouble for being inside.

The Simpsons are kind of triggering for me. Our little cable TV co-op didn’t include Fox (thanks grandpa…..?) and so the vast majority of kids would be talking about The Simpsons, MWC, In Living Color, etc. and us east enders would have no frame of reference. Made fall/winter 91-92 that much more difficult to digest.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

Going to feel very fall like the next few days, this is the euro over the next 72 hours. After this there’s several days of on and off shower activity throughout the weekend.

Cloudy, cool and 65 here currently after a low of 54. Really looking forward to our first real rain since mid June. Model consensus IMBY seems to be in the 0.5-1” range.

The temperature is perfect. I do not long for sun or heat unless I'm at the beach, trying to get a nice photo shoot at a tourist destination , or if I'm trying to manifest late summer ashfall. I don't get why people want it... It's uncomfortable. Cool, cloudy weather feels great and is not depressing if you think positively.

Indictors seem to be suggesting that the SW, US ends up coolest relative to normal this coming Winter. Problem is how warm they've been over the past year (+6F in some places!) and these trends over the last 10 years have recently stayed/built upon themself, so I don't know that I'm comfortable forecasting below average temps there.

Why do you think the SW has warmed more than other parts of the country?

It really started in 1995. Drought too. I don't know really, that's a good question.
