Major snowstorm plus late blooming fall foliage equals what could be a tree related disaster.

Speaking of trees...

I don’t know if you heard anything about the blowdown event in the Mt. Hood area during the Labor Day windstorm, but apparently it was historic in spots.

Oh and it’s not going to snow this month.

Oh, interesting. I would have thought it was an outlier since it's the coldest member.

Yeah I was really expecting the majority of the ensembles to be down around -10c in the 8-10 day range when I saw that.

Not saying it’s going to happen, but it actually looks about as solid as one could reasonably expect at that range.

Yeah even -3/-4C would be very cold for this time of year.

Up to 55 here and cloudy. Just 0.01” this morning. Was another mild one this morning. Avg. low this month has been 51.7 degrees. Last years avg. low was 42 degrees but that was anomalously cold obviously compared to this years anomalously warm Lows.

12Z ECMWF does not show any snow for WA... but it does show snow right where you expect snow in October in Oklahoma and Texas.

I like this because it shows snow where I am going to be during that time period. Lol

Yeah I am suddenly realizing it is looking to turn into a pretty dry last half of October. I know the usual suspects have seen some drizzle the last few days but I mean in terms of regional storminess.

Okay historians, what’s the earliest there’s been measurable snowfall in the Puget Sound region?

October 25th or 27th I believe. Can’t remember the exact years but I think there was one time in 1971 and another time in 1991. It’s happened a few times but not in a long time.

1984 came to mind too.

As recently as 2017, some northerners had snow in very early November if I recall.

12Z EPS in general agreement with the 12Z ECMWF... sending the bulk of the cold air into the middle of the country next weekend as opposed to the West.

As much as I love cold and snow I hope this doesn't happen. We lost way too many non palm trees last year with an eerily similar pattern on nearly the exact same dates.

Well... -12 in Bozeman and snow in Texas and Oklahoma is also pretty unbelievable for October.
