Jesse and Chris would once again be proud...I was up a ladder in the pouring rain to take down my weather station for battery replacement and cleaning. I got quite wet but my station is once again reading accurately!

That is extremely important going into winter!

Honestly, not the most pleasant weather today although it was unusual so that makes it fun.

High of 44F this morning, although it's been below 40F since noon with constant light drizzle. 0.34" of rain today.

So far the cold is holding in here.  Just 5 miles south of here it's 52 with a bit of a SW wind blowing.  The line where the south winds hit a brick wall is just south of here.

For reference... the ECMWF perfectly depicted this situation.    And it will start cooling from the north in the next hour or two.     Side note... you don't want to see the ECMWF wind map for tomorrow night.

Indeed! Though my light index sensor is still not reading, looked like there was moisture in that sensor....But as long as the rest of it continues to work I am happy. Looks like a Light NW wind and a temp of 42 with light rain.
Oh and my wife was not impressed that I did the repair work on the kitchen counter...Especially when the spiders started vacating the weather station!

Looks like Spokane has gotten about 6" of snow today. They reported a 5" depth at 5PM and have gotten another 0.11" since then at 32-33 degrees. Crazy for October.

I was thinking we were due until February 2019. That made up for quite a bit in the Seattle area.  It was a pretty bad stretch before that going back to January 2012 with no snow lasting more than a day in between those dates at least in Seattle.  Feb 2019 and December 2008 are the only times I have ever been ready for snow to melt away. Best periods of snow in Seattle area by ranking that I remember since 1990:

December 2008

February 2019

November/December 1997

January 2012

1990 January?

Yeah a friend of mine that lives there posted pics on FB and it looked like a good 6” or so!

Mt. Baker pulled through with the snow this afternoon. I wasn't originally planning on going all the way up to the ski area as I'm in a loaner (lol) and was hoping to catch some flakes around the turnoff to twin lakes/yellow aster butte at about 2000'. Sadly there was only a measly dusting at 2000', so I went all the way up. Definitely worth it. Also the first time I drove the last few miles of 542 with snow on the pavement. I knew it would be a lil sketch but wtf WSDOT, how about some guardrails? Glad it was 33 and not 23. Snow tires next time.

The wall of cold held!  It only reached 47 here and is now beginning to drop as NW winds overtake the East Puget Sound Lowlands.

Yeah...I know tomorrow night will probably flop.  Sunday night should be the cold one.  With the airmass we will have in place it should drop to freezing by 8pm or so on Sunday evening.  BTW the ECMWF map brought the warmth a little too far north today.  Pretty close though.

From a tropical forcing perspective, how might this La Niña differ from the norm? 2020-21 is predicted to have more activity over the Indian Ocean and less over the Maritime Continent. Similar to 1988-89 and 1983-84, but not to recent La Niñas. This La Niña
