By far the most impressive October storm I've witnessed here since 2012 when I bought property. Ended up with 9 inches of powder and is currently 22 degrees down from 24 at 9am.

These waves are huge by Gulf of Mexico standards. Typical wave height is something like 6”.

This thing is looking remarkably solid for being a week out.  Huge improvement on the GFS ensemble.  How fun would it be to have big GOA blocks through the entire winter?

Big improvement on the EPS vs the 12z.  It shows the cold bottoming out at day 11.  Looking like two significant cold snaps in the late Oct / early Nov period has a decent chance of happening.  As Justin pointed out earlier the only time it has happened in the period of record was 1919.  Strangely early November cold waves are exceedingly rare (except for October cold carrying over) compared to late October ones.  I have never understood that.

At any rate it appears this has a great chance of being another Fraser outflow event.  Have to love the precedent being set.

I don't really give two s*** about snow right now, what I would like is a stretch of cold/clear nights to bolster any chance of accumulating some snow further down the road. 

I personally love cold clear nights b/c of their simplicity and how goddamn refreshing it is.

Solidly cold 6z run.  850s drop to -6 or a little below both on the operational and the ensemble control model.  The cold looks quite sustained also.

The other interesting point that is pretty obvious is that China will throw as much as it can into catching up to TSMC, whether it is by ingenuity or theft, and as soon as they are, Taiwan is theirs. Will the U.S. go to war over that? Dunno. There's no going back to fix our mistakes, and competition is really heating up around the world. The next few decades are going to be very interesting.
