I assume that is because we had lots of rain in September and October and there has been almost no below freezing temps and not much wind either. The GFS still drops 850s to -7 over SEA and the ensemble mean is -6. Solid cold for this time of year. They definitely are great trees, but then I like all kinds of Japanese Maples and have 9 different varieties in my yard including Butterfly, Shaina and Shishigashira (Lion's Head).
