Ski resorts in the Rockies start at 7-8k, in the Cascades they start at 3.5k-5k. Not to mention they’re way farther from the ocean so it doesn’t really matter whether it’s a warm front or a cold front out there, it’s rarely going to rain at those elevations in the wintertime.

Gradient Keeper
Just looked at 12z runs. Models giveth and taketh away. We see a lot more in the taketh category 80/20? around there I bet. We need the block to set up a bit further east and trough to not dig so far south off Alaska. We're still 4 days before the ridge even reaches the Aleutians, so I would expect more changes over the next 2-3 days of model runs. The overall theme is a pattern change to wetter, chilly, and mountain snow. La Nina is here finally! 18z GFS in 1 hour 21 minutes
snow_wizard
The EPS looks a bit better than the ECMWF operational, but the control is almost identical to the op run. On the good side of the ledger there is strong indication the GOA blocking will last longer than originally shown. I don't get that worked up about these November cold snaps, because I always have mixed feelings about them anyway. Very often a big November results in a lousy January. I would be perfectly happy with prolonged moderate cold as opposed to the big blast so early. 3 2 Quote Death To Warm Anomalies! snow_wizard
Looks like this thing is just going to turn out chilly instead of flat out cold t least in the shorter term. With the GOA blocking being extended something big could come a bit later. The models still show it getting cold to be sure, but just nothing to write home about. Every run still brings some kind of a Canadian cold front through Seattle in about a week which will bring lows in the 20s for many of us. Too early to be disappointed IMO. 1 Quote Death To Warm Anomalies!
